Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Flin Flon Bombers split a two-game road series this past weekend as they defeated the Melville Millionaires before losing to the Yorkton Terriers. Saturday night, the Bombers earned a big 5-2 win over the Millionaires. The following night, it was a closer score as the Terriers hung on for the win at home with a 5-4 victory over the Bombers. Melville got the ball rolling on Saturday as Michael Sagen earned the lone first period goal against Flin Flon goaltender Brandon Wildung. Flin Flon tied the game early in the second period at 1:37 as Konrad Litke scored a big power play goal. It was the first of a three-goal tear as Hayden Dawes made it 2-1 at 1:57 and Litke notched his second goal to make it 3-1 at 2:15. Melville earned their last goal of the game at 16:36 in the second. Flin Flon wasn't done as they fired off two more goals in the third period. Captain Dylan Balaski made it a 4-2 game at 6:15 with help from Brett Penner and Tanner Clark. Penner then found the back of the net at 10:59, the final goal of the 5-2 game. On a high, the Bombers travelled to Yorkton, where they would go on to lose by one goal Sunday night. The Terriers led 1-0 after the first period and added another two goals in the second. Brett Boehm earned the first marker for the Bombers at 11:46 of the second period, on a power play. But the Terriers picked up a marker at 18:28 to make it a 3-1 game. In the third period, Yorkton earned an early power play goal at 1:06, making it 4-1. Penner lit the lantern at 2:15 for the Bombers. Josh Roach followed up Penner's goal at 9:48 with a power play marker to further close the scoring gap. Flin Flon was down by one when Boehm scored a big goal and tied the game at 18:10 of the final frame. With just seven seconds left, Yorkton broke the tie at 19:53, earning the 5-4 win over Flin Flon. Devin Buffalo was in net for Flin Flon Sunday as he turned away 28 of 33 shots. Wildung, the night prior, turned away 28 of 30 shots. The loss against Yorkton stopped the Bombers' five-game winning streak. Flin Flon hoped to start a new streak when they hosted the La Ronge Ice Wolves last night, after The Reminder went to press. Heading into the game the Bombers had a perfect 12-0-0 home record. Friday night, the Bombers host the Nipawin Hawks before hitting the road for North Battleford and Humboldt.
