The Flin Flon Bombers split a weekend home stand against the Humboldt Broncos, winning 3-2 Friday before losing 3-0 Saturday.
The Bombers put on an impressive show as their families attended the annual Parent’s Weekend.
In the first of two games over the weekend, Flin Flon was outshot 29-42 but earned the winning goal.
Flin Flonner Dillan McCombie did the team proud as he made it a 1-0 game at 4:06 of the opening frame with help from Cam Blair and Danys Chartrand.
The Broncos tied the game at 1-1 at the end of the first period with a marker against goaltender Simon Hofley at 18:41.
The power play goal would be Humboldt’s lone goal until the final frame.
The second period saw the Bombers pick up two more goals as Austin Calladine broke the tie at 17:08 with help from Erik Pederson and Sean Whelan.
The team’s tie-breaking lead was bumped up by one as Parker Evans-Campbell made it a 3-1 game at 19:29 with the game’s second power play shot.
The Bombers held their 3-1 lead until nearly the end of the third period.
The Broncos found the back of the net once more making it past Hofley at 16:14 for the final marker of the game.
Hofley saw the puck 42 times in the first game of the weekend as the Bombers fired off 29 shots on the Humboldt goaltender Spencer Cade.
Both the Broncos and Hofley had an impressive third period with 18 shots against the goaltender and only one goal.
The Bombers’ strongest period came in the second as they fired off 15 shots to Cade.
The following night was a different game as the Broncos led the way.
The visiting team picked up a late power play goal in the first period it make it a 1-0 game.
The Broncos continued on the path of late goals as they made it a 2-0 game at 17:18 and then 3-0 at 19:16 of the second period.
The Bombers had a low showing on shots net as they earned a total of 22 shots throughout the game.
The Broncos nearly doubled them as they fired off 28 shots on goaltender Devin Buffalo.
Flin Flon’s first period was their weakest as they fired off only five shots to Ryland Pashovitz.
In both the first and second periods, Buffalo saw the puck 15 times.
Moving Up
Flin Flon’s 3-2 win Friday night moved the team up a spot in the Sherwood standings.
The Bombers went from fourth to third place as they passed the Melfort Mustangs by one point.
Heading into last night’s game against the La Ronge Ice Wolves, the Bombers were third with 16 points.
The Ice Wolves and Nipawin Hawks were tied for first place in the Sherwood Division with 20 points.
The Hawks took on the Humboldt Broncos last night.
