The Bombers ended their four-game road trip with a split down the middle. After winning last Tuesday's game against the Nipawin Hawks, the Maroon and White went on to a close loss to the Notre Dame Hounds. Friday night saw the Bombers take on Weyburn, losing in a 4-0 shutout for the Redwings. The next night the Bombers visited Estevan to challenge the Bruins. With a 1-3 record for the past week, the Bombers skated their way to an 8-6 victory over the Bruins Saturday night. Captain Dennis Kubat put his helping hand in by lighting up the scoreboard three times that night. Reid MacLeod played a role in every goal except for one, giving him one goal and six assists. Calvin Bartel stood sturdy in the pipes, stopping 20 of the Bruins' shots. But it was Estevan that got the scoring started in the first period after only three minutes of play. Bruin Liam Brennan got his shot past Bartel, giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead early on. Bartel was given a penalty for tripping. Serving the penalty was Cameron MacKinnon at a time of 7:37. And receiving the first and only penalty for the Bruins was Niko Grose, who got two minutes for tripping at a time of 9:31. But that wasn't enough to keep the Bombers away. Scoring the first goal for the away team was Myles Masse, assisted by MacLeod and Kubat. With the score tied at one apiece, the Bruins answered back at the 11:47 mark with another goal, regaining the lead at 2-1. Brody Haygarth put the puck in the net for the home team's second goal of the evening. With the scoreboard done for the period, the boys skated to the dressing rooms before hitting the ice for the second 20 minutes of play. Getting things going in the second period was Kubat with a goal after only 38 second of play. Helping with the team's second goal of the night were MacLeod and Pierre-Luc Boucher. With the score now tied at two, the Bombers were hungry for another shot on net. David Linsley found the sweet spot, giving Flin Flon a 3-2 lead. Assisting were both Kirk Moore and Tommy Castonguay. The Bombers would light the lamp again as the team fired another two goals into the mesh, bringing their lead to 5-2. Scoring the Bombers' fourth goal was Brennan Cox, assisted by Jordan Cherney and MacLeod at 4:04. After the Bombers' fourth goal of the night, Estevan decided to pull goalie Gullame Perusse and replace him with back-up Karsten Felske. It didn't seem to matter much as no more than 40 seconds later, MacLeod got his team's fifth goal in the net. It was assisted by Boucher and Masse. After watching four goals in the second period, the Bruins pulled up their socks and got their third goal of the night past Bartel, bringing the score to 5-3 at a time of 7:40. The home team managed another marker against Bartel before the Bombers snuck their sixth goal past Estevan. Scoring the Maroon and White's sixth goal was Boucher, assisted by MacLeod at 13:04 of the second period. At the end of the second period the Bombers managed 21 shots on net, while the Bruins had 18 shots. With the scoreboard 6-4 for the Bombers to open the third period, the home team scored their fifth goal of the night, bringing the game to within one. With the score now 6-5, the Bruins scored their sixth and final goal of the night. Kubat broke the tie, bringing the score to 7-6. Helping on his second goal of the night were Masse and MacLeod. In hopes of scoring another goal, the Bruins pulled their goalie in favour of an extra man. But the determination of the Bombers blew past the extra man on the ice, leaving an open net for Kubat, who scored the final goal of the night. Helping Kubat on his hat trick goal were MacLeod and Boucher. With a final score of 8-6, the Bombers packed up and headed home. They get a week off before taking on the Nipawin Hawks at the Whitney Forum this Saturday.
