The Flin Flon Bombers went into their first southern swing of the season with hopes of coming home above .500. The Maroon and White started off strong with two straight wins before suffering a pair of losses over the weekend. Friday night, Oct. 18, saw the Bombers drop 3-2 to the Weyburn Red Wings and then 4-2 to the Notre Dame Hounds on Saturday night. In Weyburn, Flin Flon started the scoring as Paul Soubry made it 1-0 at 6:49 of the first period. The marker kept the Bombers on top only for a short time as the Red Wings tied the game at 13:08 of the opening frame. The second period saw the Red Wings take the lead with a goal on Simon Hofley at 13:55 on a power play. The Red Wings were on target again in the third period as they made it a 3-1 game at 1:56. Flin Flon's Erik Pedersen picked up the Bombers' second goal, at 11:32, but it wasn't enough to tie things up as the visitors fell 3-2. Both teams put up a good fight as the Bombers fired off 40 shots while Hofley stopped 30 of 33 shots. The following night started with the Bombers taking an early lead once again. Brett Boehm made it a 1-0 game at 9:38. The Hounds quickly tied the game at 16:35, on a power play, before making it a 2-1 just two minutes later. The Bombers came back in the second period as Tyson Empey earned a shorthanded goal at 5:44 to tie the game 2-2. The Hounds again solved Devin Buffalo to score their second power play goal of the night _ making it 3-2. The third period saw the home team score the final goal at 4:50. It was a close match-up on shots for the Hounds and Bombers as the Maroon and White fired off 31 shots. Buffalo turned away 30 of the 34 shots that came his way. Flin Flon will host the Estevan Bruins tomorrow for their first home game since their four-game road trip. Friday, the Bombers will host the Hounds before hitting the road again. The Bombers will face off against the Nipawin Hawks and the Humboldt Broncos to close out the month of October.
