Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Flin Flon Bombers notched 11 goals in two nights to pick up up a pair of shutout wins over the weekend. The Bombers blanked the Notre Dame Hounds 7-0 Friday and the Humboldt Broncos 4-0 Saturday, with both games at the Whitney Forum. That marked Flin Flon's first and second shutouts of the season. Flin Flon fired off a combined 110 shots on their opponents, including 58 shots on Notre Dame and 52 on Humboldt. Friday's 7-0 win included an impressive third period of six goals. Saturday, the Bombers kept an even pace with two goals in the second and two in the third to defeat the Broncos 4-0. Scoreless first periods all weekend left plenty of opportunities for the Bombers as they fired off 10 opening-period shots on Friday and 19 on Saturday. Friday, against the Hounds, Landon Hiebert picked up the first marker of 11 for the weekend. It came with help from Dallen Hall and Bo Clinton _ a newcomer to the team _ at 9:36 of the second period. In the second period, the Bombers fired off 21 shots on the Hounds _ while taking seven _ but were unable to get one past goaltender Ty Reichenbach for the rest of the period. In the third the Bombers opened up as Clinton earned his second goal as a Bomber only 13 seconds seconds in. Cole McCaig helped with the new addition's marker to make it a 2-0 game. Six minutes later Flin Flon's Dillan McCombie was on target with the team's third goal of the night, with help from Cam Blair and Brock Hounsell. McCaig picked up the team's fourth goal, with help from Greg Wiwcharuk and Josh Roach, at 8:04. The fast-paced third period continued as Brett Boehm earned Flin Flon's fifth goal _ coming in at 9:52 _ with help from Riley Storzuk and Dylan Balaski. Hounds coach Kevin White pulled Reichen-bach in favour of Michael Salmon. It didn't make much difference. McCombie picked up his second goal of the night, at 10:17, with assists going to Konrad Litke and Blair. See 'Hiebert...'on pg. 5 Continued from pg. 4 Three minutes later Hiebert scored his second, and the team's final, goal of the night. Coming at 13:16 Hiebert's goal made it 7-0, with help from Storzuk and Brett Penner. The Hounds fired off 24 shots on Devin Buffalo _ eight in the first, seven in the second and nine in the third. Saturday was a similar story as the Bombers took down the Broncos 4-0. A scoreless first period had eight shots come Buffalo's way as the Bombers fired off 19 on goaltender Matt Hrynkiw. Garrett Zelinski earned the opening marker with 855 spectators at the Whitney Forum. His goal came with help from Brody Robinson and Blair at 2:27 of the second period. Penner was right behind Robinson with a goal at 5:55, with assists going to Storzuk and Dany's Chartrand. In the third period the Bombers kept it up as Robinson picked up his own marker, with help from Tanner Clark and Roach, at 2:16. Broncos coach Dean Brockman pulled Hrynkiw for an extra attacker in hopes of breaking Buffalo's shutout. But the Bombers picked up their fourth night of the goal as Storzuk sealed the deal with an empty netter at 18:25. Heading into the weekend series the Bombers were in second place of the North Conference with the Broncos on top. Back on Top Following the two wins, the Bombers were back on top by three points. As of Monday the Bombers held 22 points, compared to Humboldt's 19, and a record of 11-3. Last night, the Bombers traveled to Nipawin to start a two-game mini road series. Tonight, Flin Flon takes on Humboldt before taking a week-long break.
