With the Bombers clinching second place in the Itech Conference, they travelled to Battlefords last Thursday to take on the North Stars, who sit well below them in the conference. Showing the home team who's boss, the Bombers took the North Stars down 3-2 thanks to a late third period goal by Michael Young. A good road effort in terms of shots on net had the Bombers earning 36 as Flin Flon goalie Ryan Kerpan had the puck come his way 30 times. David Dykstra scored the game and the team's first goal with help from Mathieu Lecours and Devin Mitzner. With the score sitting at 1-0, the North Stars found their sticks and answered back with a late goal against Kerpan. By the end of the second period, the score was tied at one with a number of penalties behind both teams. In the first period, the Bombers were in for Unsportsmanlike Conduct, sending Cole Wilson to the bin while the North Stars were in for hooking, checking from behind, roughing and slashing. The second period came with the North Stars in the box for another roughing and a fighting call thrown in with Patrick Sitko Ð giving both players seven minutes off the ice. And then it was Jesse Lebreton, from the North Stars, who was in for fighting while Ben Bitz from Flin Flon took two minutes for instigating, five for fighting and a 10-minute instigating misconduct. The third period was a toss up for the teams as they were tied at one apiece and looking for a way to pull ahead. It was Young who was able to get past Graham Hildebrand with a late goal Ð with help from Jean Sebastian Bergeron and Tommy Castonguay. As well as scoring the team's second and game-winning goal, Young was in the bin for holding while teammate Harley Garrioch found himself in for fighting with Mitch Wall. Both players were given five minutes. By the end of the game, Kerpan had knocked away 29 of the team's 30 shots while the Bombers fired off their 36 shots on Hildebrand. The Bombers and North Stars took to the ice for a second game in as many nights Friday. Results were unavailable at press time. Bomber coach and GM Mike Reagan was unavailable for comment.
