Bomber goalie Matt Weninger stepped up to plate and got the ball rolling to raise just shy of $5,000 for a fellow athlete who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. "Luke Boechler, a 19-year-old goalie with the Yorkton Terriers, has been diagnosed with leukemia and is currently undergoing treatment in Regina," read a statement from the team's website. "The course of his treatment is likely to run for close to six months and it is possible he may be required to stay in hospital throughout." Weninger made the announcement roughly two weeks ago that he would shave his head if Flin Flon could raise $1,000 while his billet, Karen Bettger, had the highest agreement at $3,000. Everyone was blown away when the community was able to raise almost $5,000 to support Boechler. As well as Weninger and Bettger, Dan Hotel, Hugh Bettger and fellow Bomber Alex Lamontagne shaved their heads Wednesday night in the Bomber dressing room.
