Last Thursday marked the deadline for trades in the SJHL. The Bombers were among those participating as they added three new names to their roster for future considerations. And with their new team, the Maroon and White hit the road to start things off in Melville last Friday. The BombersÕ newfound members were just the ticket at they beat Melville 5-2. Flin Flon added forward Matt Dyck from the Neewpawa Natives, Darcey Holfeld from the Brooks Bandits (AJHL) and Matt Restoule from the Battlefords North Stars. Bomber head coach and GM Mike Reagan said in an SJHL article that Dyck will Òbring a lot of grit to our line up and another added element of experience down the stretch.Ó And while Dyck may not have been on the game sheet for scoring Friday night, he did make his first appearance as a Bomber, picking up a penalty for roughing. FridayÕs game started off in typical Bomber fashion as Dominic Martel found the back of the net in the first period 8:27 into the game with help from David Dykstra and Mitch Dougall. Penalties were few and far between in the first period as Melville was called twice. Brad Jonhston was given two minutes for slashing while teammate Kirk Mastad was put in the box for holding. Calvin Bartel was in net for the Bombers as he faced only five shots in the first period while the Maroon and White tripled and then some as Millionaire goalie Kyle Cantlon saw 17 pucks come his way. Trailing with a score of 1-0 the Millionaires pulled their socks up in the second period and lit the lantern in the second period at 9:05. Kale Dolinski got one past Bartel, and that was enough for the visiting Bombers as they were about to answer back. It was Pierre-Luc Boucher, assisted by Michael Young and Myles Masse, who made it 2-1 only minutes after Melville hit the scoreboard. And while the second period saw two goals, there were a few more penalties. Bombers David Linsley and Young were each given two minutes for tripping as Cameron MacKinnon was given a couple minutes for delay of the game. Millionaire Dolinski was given two two-minute penalties for tripping and hooking. And Bombers Harley Garrioch and Dyck rounded out the end of the period with interference and roughing. By the end of the second period both teams had another six shots on net. And with a score oe 2-1, things were about to get interesting as the teams took to the ice for the third period. And the Bombers didnÕt disappoint as they scored another three goals. Melville got things started as they found the back of the net half way through the period. The Maroon and White picked up some momentum as Cole Wilson scored the third goal of the night with help from Boucher and Scott Day. Five minutes later Barrett Penner sealed the deal as he found the back of the net as well with an unassisted goal on a power play. And with less than a minute left in the game, Boucher did it again as he made the final score 5-2 with an unassisted goal. Both teams were given two penalties in the third period as Reid MacLeod was called on tripping and high sticking. Scott Hennings was given two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct as teammate Jordan Wilson was given two minutes for hooking. With a three period total, Bartel saw only 19 shots come his way while the Bombers had 40 shots.
