The Flin Flon Bombers have welcomed blueliner Tyler Kauk to the lineup for the 2013-14 season. The defenseman came to the Bombers in a trade from the Estevan Bruins as the Maroon and White parted ways with 17-year-old D-man Connor Vermeulen. Kauk, who will turn 20 in September, ranked as the Bruins' number one defenseman for the last two seasons. Last year, Kauk put up 22 points in 51 games as he followed 23 points in 58 games the season prior. The Bomber organization put feelers out for this trade, as the Estevan Mercury reported it did not originate in Estevan. 'Since I took the job, there's been phone calls and e-mails on a daily basis inquiring about Tyler,' Bruins head coach and GM Chris Lewgood was quoted as saying. 'A 20-year-old multifaceted defenceman, they're hard to come by at his skill level. Some of the teams that are making a push right our of the gate for a title, teams that feel they're in contention, are looking for just that. 'That's the number one puzzle piece that most of those teams are looking for and he fit the bill.' Lewgood went on to explain that the Bruins were not 'actively shopping him around' but began to consider offers after do an 'inventory on our club.' The coach took the opportunity to look for a chance to improve the organization. 'One thing we felt we were missing long-term was offensive defenceman and once Flin Flon showed us their immense interest in Tyler,' he said, '...it was a no-brainer for us to go after Vermeulen at that point.' At 17 years of age Vermeulen lead the Beardy's Blackhawks Midget AAA team in scoring with 16 goals and 28 points in 44 games. The Bombers will continue to grow and improve their roster. The organization's main camp will be held at the end of August as fresh and returning faces will enter the Whitney Forum for their chance with the Maroon and White.
