The Flin Flon Bombers found their second wind late in the second period to bring down the Melville Millionaires 7-4 at the Whitney Forum last Saturday night. More than 900 fans watched on as the Bombers dominated the game. The Bombers outshot the Millionaires 45-20, only allowing 10 shots on net between the second and third period. Coach Mike Reagan says the start of the game was frustrating for the team, but "we know how good we can be." Reagan said there are high expectations the team has to meet up, and things can be frustrating when those expectations aren't met. "Once the momentum gets started, everyone feeds off each other," added Reagan. Due to injuries, defenceman Brennan Cox found himself playing as a forward and doing very well. Making the transition from defence to forward also gave Cox his first chance at a goal. After almost 10 minutes of play into the second period, Cox scored the third goal for the Bombers, tying the score at three apiece. Reagan is pleased with the way Cox stepped up to the plate. "He's a defenceman and he scored a goal for us and got into a fight as well,"he said. Bomber goalie Calvin Bartel had been out from an off-ice injury but was back on the bench Saturday night as the back-up for Carsen Chubak. "I'm feeling good, really good actually," said Bartel, in reference to his ankle. While out on injury, Bartel watched from the sidelines, which he says was difficult. "It's hard to see your team play. I just want to play," he said. And when is his time to play? Bartel says he goes in net when "Mike says to go." The Bombers, as of Saturday night, were tied for second place with the La Ronge Ice Wolves in the Itech Conference. The Bombers played the Nipawin Hawks last night, and take on the Notre Dame Hounds tonight, both away games. The team then travels to Weyburn Friday night and Estevan Saturday night. The next home game will be November 3 against the Nipawin Hawks. They will hope for an end result similar to that of Saturday's match-up versus the Millionaires. Melville got the scoring off to a start early on in the first period after 4:11. Dion Campbell got the puck past Chubak on a feed from Derek Edwards. The second goal of the game was also scored by Campbell, bringing the score to 2-0. The goal was unassisted. The Bombers got the ball rolling with their first goal late into the first period. At the 17:01 mark, Pierre-Luc Boucher put the puck past Melville goalie Travis Bosch. Boucher's goal was assisted by Dennis Kubat and Reid MacLeod. The Bombers had 16 shots on goal by the end of the period, while the Millionaires had 10. Starting off the second period, the Millionaires got their third goal of the night, making the score 3-1. Justin Klassen put the puck in the net unassisted after only 3:21 of play. Being down by two goals seemed to be enough motivation for the Bombers to get the momentum started. Boucher notched his second goal of the night, assisted by Dustyn Clegg. Playing forward for the time being, Cox scored his first goal of the season, and the third of the night for the Bombers, leveling the score at 3-3. Cox's goal was assisted by J.M Allard and Robert Beaudry at a time of 9:57. Shortly after, the Bombers scored their fourth marker of the night. Boucher earned his third goal, giving him a hat trick and his team a 4-3 lead over the Millionaires. The goal was assisted by MacLeod and Kubat. Rounding out the second period, Clegg scored the fifth goal, assisted by Kirk Moore at a time of 15:32. The Bombers managed another 19 shots on the Millionaires' net, while Chubak only faced three shots in the second period. The third period was dominated by the Bombers as well, as they scored their final two goals of the night. First up was Michael Young, assisted by Cameron MacKinnon and Shawn McNulty. MacLeod then notched the final goal of the night for the Bombers, bringing the score to 7-3. MacLeod's goal was assisted by Boucher and Kubat at a time of 16:31. With one minute of play left in the third period, Melville got their final goal of the night past Chubak, bringing the final score to 7-4 for the Bombers.
