Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Following a shutout loss in Humboldt, the Flin Flon Bombers redeemed themselves last Saturday as they doubled up 4-2 on the Battlefords North Stars. Rookie Brett Boehm opened the scoring at 7:58 in the first frame to give his visiting Bombers a 1-0 lead. Newcomer Jason Wark doubled the lead with a marker at 11:19, with an assist going to Rob Gawron. North Star Josh Betinol narrowed the lead at 14:18 to end the first period 2-1 in favour of the Bombers. The Bombers dominated the shot clock in the first period with 17 shots against the North Stars. Bomber goaltender Devin Buffalo was solid in the first period with just one of the 12 shots getting past him. The second period was more evenly matched in the shot department as Flin Flon managed 10 shots on Connor Creech. Buffalo saw another 13 shots come his way as the North Stars tied the game with the lone second-period goal. Travis Marit picked up Battlefords' second, and last, goal of the night at 3:00. Flin Flon earned two more goals in the third period with a power play marker and an empty netter. Andy Blanke made it a 3-2 game with a big goal at 3:57 of the final frame with help from Riley Storzuk and Brandt Weldon. Boehm picked up his second marker of the night at 19:11 with an empty net goal to make it a 4-2 game. The Bombers remained in second place in the Bauer Conference with 58 points after the two games this weekend. The Maroon and White's loss against the Broncos Friday night left Humboldt in first place in the conference. The Broncos held 66 points at the end of the weekend as the North Stars sat with 51 points in the same conference _ good for fourth place. Flin Flon's second place ranking in the Conference left them two points ahead of the Melfort Mustangs. The Yorkton Terriers claimed first place of both the SJHL and Sherwood Conference. Holding 69 points after the weekend, the Terriers sat 11 points ahead of the Flin Flon Bombers, who claimed fifth in the league. The Maroon and White will have a week-long break before hitting home ice on Friday. The Bombers will host the Battlefords North Stars. Flin Flon has four more home games on the regular season docket. Games against the Yorkton Terriers, La Ronge Ice Wolves, and Melfort Mustangs will end out the home season.
