Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Following a loss to the Melville Millionaires Tuesday night, the Flin Flon Bombers redeemed themselves with a big 7-2 win over the Notre Dame Hounds the next night. On the road, captain Dylan Balaski picked up the opening marker of the game at 8:29 of the first period with help from Riley Storzuk and Brock Hounsell. The Hounds tied the game at 11:12 on a power play, but the tie didn't last long as Brody Robinson scored Flin Flon's second goal of the night at 17:50 to make it 2-1 Bombers for the rest of the first period. The second period belonged to the Bombers as they scored two more markers to make it a 4-1 contest. Balaski picked up his second of the night at 8:53 on a power play with help from Tanner Clark and Josh Roach. Cam Blair was on target for the fourth goal with assists going to Robinson and Brandt Weldon at 9:37. Flin Flon also dominated the third period with three goals before the Hounds earned their second of the night. Jason Wark scored his third goal as a Bomber to make it 5-1 with help from Brett Boehm and Konrad Litke at 1:56. Nearly eight minutes went by on the clock before Weldon picked up his lone marker of the night with help from Dillan McCombie and Blair at 9:45. Flin Flon's final goal came from Storzuk at 10:58 with help from Balaski and Robinson to make it 7-1. The Bombers' specialty teams worked in Notre Dame's favour as the Hounds' second goal of the night, at 12:51, came shorthanded against Devin Buffalo. Flin Flon capitalized on two of seven power play chances as the Hounds missed five of their six opportunities. Buffalo was on his game Wednesday as he stopped 26 of 28 shots. The Maroon and White fired off 36 shots on Notre Dame's two goalies. Michael Salmon started the game but after 21 shots and five goals, coach Kevin White replaced him with Ty Reichenbach for the remaining 18:03 of play. Robbed By Mills The previous night on the road, the Bombers were robbed by the Millionaires. A close score of 3-2 left the home team with two points. 'Last night we played another solid game,' said head coach and GM Mike Reagan. Since hitting the ice after Christmas, the bench boss is 'happy to see the consistency of our play.' The Bombers have two more road games this week as they are in Estevan tonight to take on the Bruins before heading to Weyburn tomorrow night. Since the 2013 portion of the season began, Reagan says he's concerned with his team's starts. '...we seem to be playing from behind a lot and having to work so hard to get back in the game,' he said. This was evident in the team's home game against the Humboldt Broncos last weekend. But the coach says there is a positive to this: 'We are showing the ability to come back.' Flin Flon had a rough go Tuesday night as a goal late in the third period was called off _ which would have tied the game with two minutes left. 'It was hard to see our goal...be disallowed...as we thought we had tied the game,' said Reagan. After watching the video, the coach agreed it was the right call with a high sticking. Heading into Wednesday's contest against the Hounds, Reagan wanted to see the Maroon and White score the first goal and play with the lead. Balaski's marker at 8:29 was the first goal of the game. Though the game was tied shortly afterwards, Robinson's goal set the team in the lead and was the first of six goals before the Hounds scored their second of the night. Long Break Following the two road games this weekend, the Bombers look to another week-long break as they prepare to hit the road in Humboldt and North Battleford. Flin Flon's next home game is set for Feb. 8 against the North Stars before they go back on the road in Melfort. Wednesday's win over the Hounds left the Bombers in second place in the Bauer Conference as the Broncos picked up a win over the Yorkton Terriers with the same 7-2 score.
