With one short week to go before the opening of the 2004/05 SJHL season, the Flin Flon Bombers are excited about the entertainment package that will be provided at the Whitney Forum each game. Everyone agrees that the on-ice product is the best that it has been in years. Off ice, the Bombers are hoping to provide top quality entertainment for the entire family. New this year will be the 7th man contest, sponsored by Canadian Tire. A draw box will be placed at the Canadian Tire store. Kids registered in Flin Flon Minor are eligible to enter their name for a chance to skate with the Flin Flon Bombers when they take the ice for each Friday and Saturday home game. When minor hockey starts, a total of 16 games will feature the 7th man. "The kids get to come to the rink early, be in the dressing room before the game, and come out before the game starts," says marketing director Tim Coutts. "They skate around with players and stay on the ice for O'Canada. They get to interact with the players. It's a thrill to be there with the players before the game." Canadian Tire has done this promotion for a number of years in other centres, and it promises to be a popular one in Flin Flon. Also new for this season is a Putt-to-win contest, brought to you by Kelly McLaren's Pro Shop. At each Friday night home game, one lucky fan will have a chance to putt for some great prizes. Then on Saturday night, the Dean Coolley GM shootout returns, in conjunction with the Aseneskak Casino. The Bombers are also bringing back the Northland Ford frisbee toss. The pot will start at $500 and accumulate until someone wins. Last year's winner brought home over $800. Starting today, season tickets will be available for pick up at the Bomber office in the Community Hall. Today only, the office will be open from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday next week, the office will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for ticket pick ups, and Friday before the home opener from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The regular season gets underway on September 17 when the Bombers will host the new-look La Ronge Ice Wolves. Make sure you are on hand for the player introductions, and to welcome the new players to the Whitney Forum. In other Bomber news, the 50/50 season ticket holder draw with a guaranteed prize of $5,000 is going well. Also, the Bombers announced that they turned a profit at their recent golf tournament. Everyone who entered went home with a prize, and the event promises to be bigger and better next year. Don't forget, the Bombers will host their final home preseason game tonight. The Swan Valley Stampeders are in town, game time is 7:30 p.m. The team's final two preseason games will be on the road. On Saturday, the team is in The Pas for the rematch against the OCN Blizzard at the GLMC. On Tuesday, the Bombers will close out the exhibition season with a game in Nipawin against the Hawks.
