There weren't a lot of fans at the Whitney Forum on the weekend to watch the Flin Flon Bombers battle the Kindersley Klippers, but those that were dedicated enough to brave the snow storm were treated to some great junior hockey action. Those that were in attendance will agree that the young Bomber squad put in two good efforts, but the team came up short when the game was on the line, losing 7-5 on Friday night and 4-2 on Saturday. The Bombers spotted the Klippers two first period goals on Friday. Troy Schwab got Kindersley on the board at 3:01, and then Kyle Holmes beat his old teammate Francois Laverdiere at 13:54. Stewart Sjoberg scored just 48 seconds into the second period during 4-on-4 play, with David Holinaty and Andrew Skrabek assisting. Mike McKinna had a chance to tie the game for Flin Flon near the midpoint of the period, but his backhand sailed wide of the empty net. The Klippers scored just seconds later to make it 3-1. Jade Boklaschuk picked up the goal at 11:38. At 13:07, Blake Jamieson made it a 4-1 hockey game. The Bombers dominated the remainder of the period and were able to score twice to come within one goal by the end of the second. Tyler Beachell scored at 13:36 from Skrabek and Blake Rolston, and Cole McLean picked up his first goal of the season at 16:42 with Mackenzie Groenewegen and Carter Chomyn adding the assists. The teams traded goals early in the third period. Josh Zimmer scored at 2:47, and Beachell scored his second of the game at 2:58. McLean appeared to have scored his second of the game early in the period, but Gio Flamminio knocked the net off, and the goal was disallowed. Kevin Buyan made it 6-4 at 11:47, and Andrew Skrabek's goal at 14:15 from Beachell and Rolston, and the Bombers were within one goal of tying the game. See 'Good' P.# Con't from P.# Josh Sim put an end to any thoughts of a comeback with a power-play goal at 15:19 to round out the scoring. The Bombers were out shot 48-38 including 16-9 in the third period. Flin Flon scored one power-play goal on five chances, while Kindersley scored twice on six advantages. Just over 600 fans attended the game. At the end of the game on Friday, Cole McLean had a run-in with goaltender Johnathan Meyer, knocking him to the ice to set the tone for Saturday's game. Both players received 10-minute misconducts for their involvement. McLean's actions finally drew the attention of Kindersley's Curtis Graham. McLean had been trying to get Graham to drop the gloves for three previous games at the Whitney Forum, and Graham skated away each time. On Saturday night, the two went toe-to-toe on their first shift of the game. The fight seemed to spark both teams, but it was Flin Flon who would strike first, as Stewart Sjoberg netted his ninth goal of the season on a power play at 12:47 during a 4-on-3 advantage. The goal was assisted by Tyler Beachell and Clayton Geiger. Blake Rolston scored the only goal of the second period, on the power play at 8:42. Rylan Zakreski and Tyler Beachell assisted. It was Beachell's ninth point in the last four games. Not used to playing with a two-goal lead, the Bombers held on for the first ten minutes of the third period. Kindersley pounded the Bombers, out shooting them 24-7 in the final frame, and the Klippers were able to score four times in a six minute span near the end of the period. Cody Nunweiler and Jade Boklaschuk scored to tie the game with goals at 12:23 and 13:16 respectively. Josh Sim's power-play goal at 15:43 was the game-winner, and Brodie Zuk iced the win at 18:30 to make the final score 4-2. Final shots on net were 50-25 in favour of the Klippers. Under 600 people attended the game, the lowest crowd this season. However, the weather was brutal forcing a lot of people to stay home. The final home game before the Christmas break will be this Tuesday, when the Nipawin Hawks are in town. The Salvation Army will be set up in the lobby accepting toy donations for their Christmas hampers. If you cannot make it to the game, gifts can be dropped off at the Salvation Army Thrift Store on North Avenue.
