The Flin Flon Bombers had a full weekend of games. They started things off in The Pas against the OCN Blizzard on Friday night. The Bombers dominated the rink, coming out on top with a score of 11-3. OCN made the trek to Flin Flon Saturday night for a rematch in which the Bombers again took the victory with a score of 5-4, after a traditional moose leg throw onto the ice. Just when Bomber fans thought they had enough, the boys came out once again Sunday night against the Nipawin Hawks. After two wins in a row, the Bombers fought a hard battle against the Hawks, but lost in a shootout with a final score of 3-2. Coach Mike Reagan says he's pleased with the way things are going so far. The tough task of making some roster cuts still lies ahead for the first-year head coach. "It's going to be tough," says Reagan. "There are a lot of good players out there." He adds, "they will get to play somewhere." Goalie Calvin Bartel, who played in Sunday's game against Nipawin, says, "we played hard, we skated hard and we had a lot of shots on net." The 19-year-old returning goaltender says as far as he can see, the Bombers are ahead of where they were last year. "Our conditioning and our attitude is much better," he says. Bartel also says the veterans have a new attitude, which he attributes to Reagan. "Mike always says we're here to win, and he expects nothing less," he says. While some may say the words sound harsh at first, Bartel says "that's what hockey is - we play to win." Forward Reid Macleod says he's pretty pleased with the start as well. "We've got a point in every game so far and I think we're playing good," says the 18-year-old. The Bombers will play the Melfort Mustangs in their regular season home opener at the Whitney Forum this Friday, September 14.
