It was the same old story for the Flin Flon Bombers this past weekend, as they picked up a single point in three games on the road. They spotted the North Battleford Stars five goals and lost 6-2 on Friday night, and then lost 4-3 in overtime to the Kindersley Klippers on Saturday night. On Sunday afternoon they dropped their second game to Kindersley, 5-2. On Friday, special teams proved to be a problem, as the Stars netted four power-play goals and a short handed goal to bury the Bombers. Cole Fern opened the scoring with a power-play marker at 13:33, and then scored short handed at 14:01. Brock Acorn's ninth of the season came at 16:39 on a power play, and the stars led 3-0 after 20 minutes of play. The Bombers were out shot 12-6 in the first period. Paul Reimer replaced Brett Koscielny to start the second period, but two more power-play goals put the game out of reach. Steve Makway scored at 4:30 with the man advantage, and Fern netted his third of the game at 10:13. Tyler Stinton got the Bombers on the board at 15:59 with his third goal of the season, with Stewart Sjoberg and Spencer Davis getting credit for the assists. Shots in the second period were 9-7 in favour of the Stars. Stewart Sjoberg's third goal of the season at 10:43 of the third period was as close as the Bombers would get, with Andrew Skrabek assisting. Jesse Matlock capped the scoring at 15:05 to make the final score 6-2. Shots in the third period were 12-10 for the Bombers, but 31-25 for the Stars in the game. The Stars scored four goals on eight power plays, while the Bombers failed to score on seven tries with the extra attacker. On Saturday, the Bombers were out shot 19-6 in the first period, but managed to score the first goal of the game. Jeff LaPoint's shot beat Nathan Deobold at 10:34 on a power play, with assists going to Andrew Skrabek and Craig Parks. Two late goals by Kindersley put the Bombers down 2-1 after the first period. Steve Matic scored at 16:40, and then Cody Vaughan beat Paul Reimer at 17:05. Craig Parks tied things up for Flin Flon with a short handed goal from Ryan Boak at 1:47. Brady Larock made it 3-2 for Kindersley at 3:24, but Jeff Lapointe tied the game with his fifth goal of the season at 6:47, with Tyler Stinton and Derek Blais assisting. The Bombers were out shot 13-8 in the second period, and again in the third period, but nothing was decided, so the teams headed to overtime. Cody Vaughan's second goal of the game came with just 15 seconds left in the extra frame to win the game. Kindersley out shot Flin Flon 4-1 in overtime, and 49-23 in the game. Flin Flon's penalty killing was much better on Saturday, as the Bombers held the Klippers scoreless on nine tries, while scoring once on six tries themselves. The Bombers closed out their road trip with an afternoon game on Sunday in Kindersley, with just the scoring summary available at press time. Although Flin Flon had led the game 1-0 after one period of play, Kindersley jumped to a 4-1 lead after two periods and then the home town team went on to win 5-2 after regulation time.
