The road woes continued for the Flin Flon Bombers on Monday night, losing 5-4 to Kindersley in a penalty-filled matchup.
Flin Flon drew first blood with an early goal by Mike Wong, but three quick goals by Klippers Curtis Peck, Brody Ryberg and Tanner Thompson turned the tide for Kindersley. Mason Martin stopped the tide with a late goal, cutting the deficit to 3-2 after 20.
Bomber forward Rob Johnson tied the game up early in the second, but Thompson and Ryberg each added their second goals of the night on the power play, extending the lead to 5-3 Kindersley.
Things got chippy late in the second period after Klipper Keillan Olson nailed a Bomber player with a head shot. By the time the dust settled, five misconducts were given and four players were ejected, including Bombers Ethan Daniels and Daylan Marchi, for a series of fights that erupted after the hit. Olson himself recieved a 10-minute misconduct and a two minute penalty for a blow to the head.
The edgy play continued into the third, where Bomber Vaughan Bamford was sent to the showers after a fight with Kindersley's Cameron Shorrock. Mason Martin received a 10-minute misconduct and a roughing call not long after.
Bomber Caleb Moretz added a late goal, but despite a late power play, the Bombers couldn't deliver the tying goal late, bringing the final score to 5-4
Brenden Newton made 25 saves for the Bombers, while Billy Girard got the win for the Klippers, making 25 saves.
A total of 170 penalty minutes were assessed during the game, including more than an hour and a half of penalties assessed to the Klippers. Kindersley leads the league in penalty minutes assessed this season with 926.
Bomber head coach and GM Mike Reagan and rookie scoring sensation Chrystopher Collin were not with the team for the game, each having not joined the team yet after the World Junior A Challenge. Reagan and Collin both earned gold medals for their tournament win with Team Canada West.
The loss brings the Bombers' road record down to 1-12-0-0 on the season. The team has lost 12 straight games on the road, only winning their first away game of the year on Sept. 16 against La Ronge.
The Bombers are now on a six-game losing skid and have lost eight of their last nine games, having won just once in the month of December.
Kindersley and the Bombers will meet up again Tuesday night for the Bombers' last game before the holiday break.
