The Flin Flon Bombers were in Estevan Saturday night to face the Bruins in hopes of ending their four-game road trip on a winning note. Although the team pulled one victory out of the trip, Saturday wasnÕt their night as Estevan got past Flin Flon 3-2. The shots on net couldnÕt have been much closer as the Bruins outshot the Bombers 39-38, giving them that one extra goal for the win. Calvin Bartel took his turn in net as he fought off 17 of his 18 shots on net, letting on one past him. And it was Karsten Felske who was on fire for the Bruins, allowing only two goals throughout the game. Similar to Friday nightÕs game, the home team started the scoring off as Payden Benning was first to get past Bartel, almost halfway through the period. Benning, assisted by Brennan Wrigley and Kealin Wong, lit the lantern for Estevan after 12:04 of play. And with the score 1-0, the Bombers werenÕt about to go down with another scoreless game. Reid MacLeod made his way to the net, after being fed by Myles Masse and Dennis Kubat on a powerplay, to tie the score at one each. The first period saw Harley Garrioch in the box for interference, giving Estevan a powerplay, but the team was unable to capitalize. It was Brody HaygarthÕs high sticking call that gave Flin Flon their powerplay chance. Scott Day was given two minutes for boarding and Wong was called on tripping. While Bartel saw 18 shots that period, the Bombers had 10 shots on Felske. The second period was saw only one goal as Davis Brown found the back of the net to break the tie on a power play. And with only three penalties in the period, the game was played from one end to another as the Bombers had another 16 shots on net, while Bartel saw 10 come his way. Kyle Garagan saw his two minutes out for cross checking. And Day was back in the net for boarding, giving the Bruins the powerplay the needed. And with only 30 seconds left in the period, Jordan MacSawin was behind the glass for tripping. With a score of 2-1, the Bombers werenÕt going to take it lying down as Pierre-Luc Boucher found the back of the net, with help from MacLeod, closing the bracket once again. But the Bruins would soon take away the tie, and the victory, as Kyle Stroh, would score the game's final goal. The third period saw a few more penalties as both teams were called on interference. But it was Estevan that was given a bench penalty for too many men on the ice. Both Colton MacPherson and Michael Young were given roughing penalties while Masse was given two minutes for checking to the head and roughing after the whistle. In the same time period Kyle Ermel was given a roughing after the whistle and Masse was given a 10 minute misconduct, with only one second left in the game. Although the Bombers didnÕt come out on top, they managed another 12 shots on net while Bartel faced another 11 shots towards him. The Bombers are on home turf tonight as they challenge the La Ronge Ice Wolves, for their final game of the month.
