On Tuesday night, the Flin Flon Bombers found out the hard way that they can't afford to get comfortable after a couple of easy wins. They were dumped 7-3 by the Nipawin Hawks, who also out shot the Bombers 55-26. Assistant coach Dustin Ernest said in his post-game interview that he felt a couple of players mailed in their effort. Fritz Sauter wasn't one of them, as he picked up a goal and an assist in the loss and was one of Flin Flon's better players. He scored a short handed breakaway goal in the second period, before the Hawks opened the floodgates. Nipawin dressed four call-ups for the game, and got a goal out of Daniel Hope to start the game at 1:56 of the first period. TJ Sutter made it 2-0 at 10:04, and then Kyle Krunick scored at 11:19 to give the Hawks a three goal lead. Clete Mastad got the Bombers on the board at 16:14, with Fritz Sauter and Cole McLean assisting. Jared Spencer scored a power-play goal at 2:36 of the second period to make it a 4-1 game, and Sauter's goal at 4:23 brought the Bombers to within two goals. Unfortunately, the Hawks popped in three goals in the final three minutes of the period. Mike Bulawka scored a power-play goal at 17:53 during a five-on-three advantage, and then Ryan Cruse scored on the second half of the power play at 18:24. Cody Purves made it 7-2 at 19:12. Tyler Beachell scored his 18th goal of the season at 19:29 to stop the bleeding for the Bombers, but the damage was already done. Blake McCullough and Dalton Pajak assisted on the goal. The teams skated through the third period without scoring. The Bombers failed to score on 10 power plays, while the Hawks were good on three of their ten chances. The Bombers were in Notre Dame last night to take on the Hounds. Results were unavailable at press time. They will finish the road trip with games in Weyburn and Estevan on Friday and Saturday respectively. In other SJHL action on Tuesday night, the La Ronge Ice Wolves needed overtime to get by the Melfort Mustangs 3-2. Jeff Marshall scored the winner just seven seconds into overtime. The teams played through 40 minutes of scoreless hockey. Tanner Shultz and Doug Exner gave the Ice Wolves a 2-0 lead. Jeff Hajner scored a power-play goal at 14:51, and then Matt Fennell tied the game at 19:14. The Battlefords North Stars got goals from five different players in a 5-3 win over the Humboldt Broncos. Brett Jullion, Derek Keller, Michael George and Mitch Woods all scored for the Stars. Alex Lussier had a pair of goals in the losing cause, while Kevin Duchaine added a single. Guillaume Miszczak made 23 saves as Dustin MacDonald had the night off. The Estevan Bruins did all their scoring in the second period as they held on to beat the Yorkton Terriers 2-1. Chris Korchinski opened the scoring for Yorkton with his 22nd of the season at 11:53 of the first period. Lorne Tytlandsvik and Patrick McGillicky scored for the Bruins. It was their first win since the trade deadline.
