Bombers look ahead after thrashing Ice Wolves

The Bombers beat the La Ronge Ice Wolves 6-1 on the road on Friday, Dec. 30. The next day they downed the Ice Wolves 5-1 at the Whitney Forum.

“I think I was most happy about how crisp and sharp we were,” Flin Flon head coach Mike Reagan said. “Guys came back ready to go. I think it’s a good start for our team. We just need to keep getting better as we get going. Our goal right now is to get into second place overall and keep our lead on Nipawin.”

Flin Flon has 50 points in the SJHL standings. The Bombers sit in third place in the league, one point behind Estevan (51), as of Jan. 1. In the Sherwood Division, Flin Flon leads Nipawin by nine points.

Last weekend the Bombers outshot the Ice Wolves 105-51. La Ronge had to use both of its goalies both nights. On Friday, Flin Flon’s Rylee Zimmer had four points, including a goal, while defenceman Troy Williams had two goals. Zac Robidoux stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced.

On Saturday, the Bombers were three-for-six on the power play. Five different players had goals on the night. Defenceman Eric Sinclair recorded three assists. Goalie Brenden Newton made 27 saves on 28 shots.

The Bombers open 2017 with a pair of road games. They take on the Kindersley Klippers (16-21-1-0) on Friday and Saturday. The next game at the Whitney Forum is on Friday, Jan. 13 against Yorkton (17-16-3-0).
