The Flin Flon Bombers found a way to lose on Sunday night, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Estevan Bruins after leading the game until 19:30 of the third period. Not only did Estevan tie the game in the dying seconds, they also skated the puck down the ice and netted the game winner with 16 seconds to play. Andrew Skrabek opened the scoring for the Bombers at 4:01 of the first period with the Bombers on a 5-minute power-play. Skrabek tipped in Derek Gallagher's shot from the point just three seconds after Kyle Martin was ejected for a high hit on Joey Moggach. Shots after the first period were 10-9 for Flin Flon. The teams exchanged goals in the second period, but the momentum took a shift in favour of the Estevan Bruins after the Bombers took a 2-0 lead early in the period. Derek Gallagher scored at 5:04 on a power play from Anatoliy Moshkovsky and Joey Moggach. Kyle Pellerin got the Bruins on the board at 9:14, and the Bombers led by one goal heading into the third period, although they were out shot 16-7 by Estevan in the second period. Estevan continued to dominate in the third period, and Francois Laverdiere kept the puck out of the net until the Bruins pulled goaltender Justin Mrazek with just under a minute to play. Cam Jarvis beat Laverdiere at 19:30, and it looked as if the Bombers were headed to overtime for the second game in a row. Unfortunately, the Bombers let their guard down again, and Patrick McGillicky gave the Bruins the victory, scoring at 19:44. The Bombers were out shot 21-5 in the third period, and 46-22 in the game. Flin Flon scored two power-play goals on five chances, while holding Estevan scoreless on eight chances. With the win, Estevan jumped ahead of the Notre Dame Hounds and into a tie with the Yorkton Terriers for third place in the Sherwood Conference with 55 points each. Notre Dame has 54 points, and currently holds on to the final playoff spot in the SJHL, as they are ahead of the Nipawin Hawks, who have 53 points and are fourth in the Dodge Conference. Nipawin has one game in hand over Notre Dame, and two games over both Estevan and Yorkton. Next action for the Bombers will be Wednesday in Pelican Narrows against the Battlefords' North Stars. The same two teams will play in Flin Flon on Thursday.
