November is Domestic Violence Prevention Month, with this year’s focus on the importance of taking an active role in identifying and dealing with abusive relationships.
Break the Silence is a multi-year campaign strategy aimed at men that encourages them to speak out against verbal and physical violence toward women.
This year the Flin Flon Bombers have teamed up with the Women’s Resource Centre to tackle violence against women. They will help support and be role models in this campaign.
The players have volunteered to help relay the message that this type of behaviour is unacceptable under any circumstance.
The campaign includes videos featuring Flin Flon Bombers Evan Akkerman, Dean Allison, Austin Evans, Parker Evans-Campbell, Chris Rauckman and Mason Etter.
The messages remind Flin Flonners to be more than a bystander and to help break the silence around violence against women and girls.
The campaign is considered especially important because of whom it is geared toward. It is important for young men to hear this message from men who play sports or act as role models in the community.
The Flin Flon Bombers and the Women’s Resource Centre continue to work together to help stop violence against women. Watch the videos to see what the players have to say.
The videos will be on YouTube. The Women’s Resource Centre Facebook page will have them posted as well.
The Reminder will have more articles to mark Domestic Violence Prevention Month. Residents are encouraged to show their support for this cause by wearing a purple ribbon.
