At the Flin Flon Bombers’ Spring Camp this weekend the team will be looking for more than just hockey talent.
“We are placing a high importance on character and work ethic,” head coach and general manager Mike Reagan said. “We feel we have a lot of talent returning but size, grit and compete are the type of players we feel will complement our returning core.”
The Bombers expected about 115 players born between 2000 and 2003 to attend their May 4 to 6 camp at Saskatoon’s Agriplace Ice Sports.
The Bombers have cast a wide net in recruiting. Players at the camp are expected to come from as far away as Quebec, Newfoundland, and Colorado. Several players from last year’s team will be helping out at the camp.
The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League squad only had four 20-year-olds age out from last year’s playoff team that was stocked with promising young players, rookies, and newcomers. Six of the Bombers’ top seven scorers are eligible to return.
“We don’t have many holes to fill, but we are excited to see the competition for those spots and get a feel for how our team will take shape.” Reagan said of the spring camp. “We will know if we have the right guys to fill those holes or if we have to continue looking.”
