The Flin Flon Bombers host the Melfort Mustangs this weekend, and while it is unlikely for the Bombers to make the playoffs, two wins would go a long way to restoring the confidence of both the players and the fans. Attendance has been down for the last few home games. Flin Flon tied Nipawin on Tuesday in front of under 600 fans, well below their average for the season. Some new faces in the lineup have given the Bombers' renewed energy, and the team proved that they will be able to compete without the likes of Andrew Skrabek and Stewart Sjoberg. Francois Laverdiere also stepped up his game, providing the kind of game the Bombers will require from him each night for the rest of the season. The additions of Bradyn McCullough, Blake McCullough, Dalton Pajak and Kurt Surine have ensured that the Bombers are committed to making this team a contender for next year. For this weekend, the Bombers will have to contend with the Melfort Mustangs, who have also struggled all season long. The Bombers will be looking for their first win since November, while the Mustangs have won just two of their last 10 games. The Bombers remain 15 points behind the Mustangs with just 15 games remaining in the season. Flin Flon also has two games in hand over Melfort. More importantly, the Bombers will be looking to hit double digits in the win column. Failure to do so would write another chapter in the Bomber record books, as their worst season on record was 10 wins in both 2001/02 and 2002/03. Come out to the Whitney Forum this weekend to show your support, and welcome the new players to town. Game time on Friday and Saturday is 7:30 p.m.
