After a successful exhibition season, the revamped, retooled – and fans hope resurgent – Flin Flon Bombers are ready for the real deal.

The Bombers open the 2017-18 regular season this Friday, Sept. 15, when they host the La Ronge Ice Wolves at the Whitney Forum.

“It’s going to be an exciting year with so many new faces,” said Bombers head coach and general manager Mike Reagan. “We are very confident in the young guys, that with time and patience they will develop into great players for us.

“Our leaders will play a big role in [developing] them as they teach them the Bomber way. I think our fans will see a team evolve and continue to get better as the season goes.”

This Saturday, Sept. 16, Flin Flon heads to La Ronge for the second match-up of the home-and-home series with the Ice Wolves, the cellar dwellers of the SJHL last season.

The Bombers went 3-1 in the preseason, with their only loss coming Sunday, Sept. 3, when they fell 6-3 to the Nipawin Hawks at the Whitney.

Flin Flon won its exhibition opener 3-2 on Saturday, Sept. 2 in Nipawin.

The Bombers also captured the first-ever Twin Motors Battle of the North series against the MJHL’s OCN Blizzard.

The Bombers dusted off the rival Blizzard in OCN 7-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 5 and again by a 5-3 tally at the Whitney on Friday, Sept. 8.

Brenden Newton, Flin Flon’s anticipated starter  in net this season, finished the preseason on a winning note by stopping 23 of 26 shots in the Sept. 8 match-up against OCN.

The Bombers will bring a revamped roster to the new season, having lost eight of their top 10 scorers from last season.
