Bombers hand out annual hardware

Derek Blais was the big winner as the Flin Flon Bombers handed out the hardware on Sunday evening, pool side at the Victoria Inn. Blais, graduating captain of the hockey team, picked up three awards, including the first and last hand outs of the night. Bomber president Dave McPherson presented Blais with the Howard Fox Award for Mr. Hustle. Later, Angie Stelnicki gave Blais the Royal Bank 3 Star Award, and Blais capped off the hat trick when head coach Ryan Hoffman named Blais the 2003-04 Most Valuable Player. John Iron was named the team's Most Gentlemanly Player, in memory of Diane Krokosz, presented by Ralph Cosgrove. The Bob Clarke Trophy for Most Outstanding Local Player was presented by Brad Snyder to Ryan Boak for the second year in a row. Joey Moggach was a double winner on the night. He was presented with the George Leel Memorial Trophy for Top Scorer by Ken Entwistle, and then picked up the Nick Oklobidja Trophy for Rookie of the Year, presented by Emily Robinson and Geno Oklobidja. The newly named Paddy Ginnell Award for Most Improved Player was awarded to Daryl Fransoo, presented by Ron Burwash, who spoke briefly about Paddy. See 'Seven' P.# Con't from P.# Kyle Holmes was the Academic Scholarship winner, taking home a plaque along with $500, presented by coach Ryan Hoffman. The Defensive Player of the Year Award went to Derek Gallagher, presented by Hank Kosar. The Best Defenceman Trophy went to Jeff LaPointe, presented by assistant coach Dustin Ernest. Presentations were made to the seven graduating players: Derek Blais, Derek Gallagher, Joe Gori, Anatoliy Moshkovsky, Ryan Boak, Julian Matte and Jeff LaPointe. Each was presented with their jersey as a keepsake from their days as a Bomber. Bomber president Dave McPherson and coach Ryan Hoffman said a few words of reflection on the past season, and looked ahead to 2004-05. Captain Derek Blais had the final word, paying tribute to his teammates, coaches, fans, volunteers, board members, parents and billet parents.
