Over the years, many references to Flin Flon have been made in various entertainment settings. Canadian comedian Mike Myers played a temperamental sports correspondent from Flin Flon in the Hollywood Pictures film Mystery Alaska. There is the low-budget film Road to Flin Flon, about a social worker who gives up his hollywood lifestyle to "move to Flin Flon to work with the Eskimos". References to Flin Flon were made in the CBCTV movies Conspiracy of Silence and Net Worth. There is a UK punk band that have chosen Flin Flon as their tag, and even a group of fiddlers that call themselves the Flin Flon Five. During a radio call-in show with recording artists Bryan Adams, after introducing a caller from Flin Flon, the host asked Bryan if he had ever heard of the place. The first word out of his mouth were "Sure, the Flin Flon Bombers". Coming in 2005, hockey fans will recognize the Bombers' 'bursting B' in the upcoming horror/comedy "Santa's Slay". M8 Distribution contacted the hockey team earlier this week, requesting permission to use a jersey as part of the wardrobe for the film's hero. "We would love for the hero of the film to wear a Bombers jersey when we first see him, at the deli where he works," said a fax request from the company. "The director of the film is a huge hockey fan and wants to pay homage to your team." Director David Steiman, who has previously worked as the assistant to Brett Ratner (Red Dragon, After the Sunset and the Rush Hour movies, etc.) will be making his writer and directoral debut with Santa's Slay. "I think it's great," said Dave McPherson, president of the Flin Flon Bombers. "Any publicity for the hockey club is always positive. In Flin Flon we're a pretty well known community for our hockey. With Santa's Slay, that could be another 10-15,000 people that will have more of an iterest in the movie. " Santa's Slay is described as a fast pace action/horror film with tongue in cheek comedy. The hero, Nicholas, learns the terrifying truth about ol' St. Nick from his eccentric grandfather. With the help of his love interest, Mary (Mac) Mackenzie, the two become involved in an evil game of cat and mouse with Kris Kringle, while ultimately trying to restore some normalcy to Chirstmas. Bill Goldberg of World Wrestling Entertainment fame will star as Santa. "Santa is actually Satan, who 1,000 years ago lost a curling match to an angel. For a millennia, Satan/Santa had to be a good, giving and jolly fellow. But now the bet, and Santa's good cheer are over as the ruler of hell has a naughty list and he aims to fill it. It will suddenly dawn on police what the once beloved Santa's modus operandi is when the map in their mock station is filled with dozens of coloured tacks indicating crime scenes. As the bodies pile up, they realize the pins on the map are taking on the shape of a Christmas tree, giving authorities a clue as to where the naughty elf will strike next." - www.upcominghorrormovies.com. The movie is currently in the preproduction phase, and is getting ready to start filming in Alberta on February 9.
