Hosting the Provincial event for the second time in five years, the Flin Flon Midget Bombers welcomed eight other teams to the Whitney Forum Friday morning. Games got underway bright and early as the first puck dropped at 9 a.m. for the Midget AA Provincials. Fans, teams and coaches joined together, with the RCMP and members of the Flin Flon Minor Hockey Association, on the ice Friday night for the traditional opening ceremonies. From there, hockey continued until the finals on Sunday. Losing 3-2 in overtime to the Brandon Wheat Kings, the Bombers took home the fourth place title. But Greg Phair, Bomber coach, says the game could have gone either way. Phair says the Bombers matched up evenly against their competitors. "It would have been nice to medal," says Phair, adding that the team played well. As for the team, the coach says it's been a rebuilding year Ð as he sits with a "very young" team. Claiming first place in the tournament were the Brandon Wheat Kings with the Thompson King Miners coming in second and the Steinbach Millers rounding out the top three.
