After months of silence from the Flin Flon Bombers, the team finally made some noise on Tuesday, acquiring the services of two players and coming to an agreement with a third. The Bombers picked up 19-year-old defenceman Fritz Sauter from the Estevan Bruins in exchange for an unnamed list player. Head coach Ryan Hoffman made the move to acquire Sauter after it was confirmed that Trevor Olynick would not be coming to training camp on September 1. Olynick has opted to go to school in the fall. "We jumped at the chance to fill the hole left by Olynick," said Hoffman. Fritz played his last year of Midget for me in Yorkton." The Bombers also signed Manitoba prospect Tyler Beachell, who played in the Midget 'AAA' League with the Interlake Lightning. Beachell was a teammate of Andrew Skrabek, who played for Interlake before joining the Bombers. Beachell is a 6'2 left-winger, who finished eighth in the league in scoring with 46 points in 39 games. Besides Olynick, it is expected the rest of the team will be returning. After spending a year with the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League, Keith Spencer will be returning to man the blue-line of the Bombers with Bob Graham, the other 20-year-old defenceman on the team. Coach Hoffman was in Meadow Lake a couple weeks ago to talk to Spencer about coming back, and his new role with the team. "Spencer and Olynick will form a solid one-two punch," said Hoffman. They are both big, solid, physical guys. Keith's year in the WHL will have helped him in his development. We expect both those guys to be real leaders for us." Training camps around the SJHL open on September 1. The Bombers will have between 55 and 60 guys in town to compete for spots on the team. In other Bombers news, the team will be hosting a golf tournament on August 27. Highlights include two hole-in-one holes with vehicles up for grabs. There will be over $4,000 in prizes to be won. There is room for 25 foursomes, and spots are filling up fast. Also, sales of Harvest Lotto tickets are winding down.
