Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Flin Flon Bombers and Battlefords North Stars are having a hard time keeping their place in the Bauer Conference standings. With only one point separating the two teams, Flin Flon and Battlefords have been swapping places after each game as of late. With only one regular season game left for Flin Flon Ð against the sixth-place Nipawin Hawks Ð the Bombers and North Stars are fighting for home ice advantage in the playoffs. The two teams will face off against each other in the survivor series round of the playoffs, which start next Friday. Following Tuesday's game against Battlefords, the Bombers moved back into fifth in the conference as the North Stars reclaimed fourth place. The Bombers play their final game of the regular season on Wednesday, as they host the Hawks. The North Stars, however, had three games on the docket, beginning Wednesday. Battlefords visited the Hawks Wednesday night before two games against the Kindersley Klippers were to be played. Tonight, the North Stars will host. Tuesday, the Klippers will host the North Stars in their final game of the regular season. As of Wednesday morning, the Bombers and North Stars were tied with 25 wins Ð the Bombers in 57 games and the North Stars in 54 games. Though tied in wins, the North Stars had three fewer losses than the Bombers, who sat with 30. Overtime losses came as another tie for the teams as they both had two The Bombers, however, hadn't lost a shootout all season, compared to one for the North Stars. Following the end of the regular season, the Bombers and North Stars will compete for their chance to continue in the playoffs to face off against the SJHL's top team, the La Ronge Ice Wolves. The Ice Wolves proved last season that the elimination series can be crucial. Fighting for a spot in the playoffs last season, La Ronge went on to win not only the conference title, but also the SJHL Credit Union Cup, the SJHL and MJHL championship with the Anavet Cup, and then the RBC Cup.
