If blowouts aren't your thing, avert your eyes. The Flin Flon Bombers blew apart the Kindersley Klippers Friday night with a 9-2 road win.
It was the Bombers' sixth straight game with at least one point and enough to keep the team one point behind Melfort for top spot in the Sherwood Division. The Bombers sit second in the division with 24 points, only behind the 'Stangs' 25. The Bombers also sit third in the overall league standings.
While Flin Flon owned the scoresheet, they did not do so early. In fact, it was an ex-Bomber who opened the scoring - American import Jacob Schnapp potted his fourth of the season barely a minute into the game. After that, though, it was all Bombers. Chase Haygarth tied the game up less than two minutes later, while Mason Kaspick added his second goal as a Bomber to give Flin Flon the lead.
Caden Benson tied things up for the Klippers, but a pair of late period powerplays spelled doom for Kindersley. Cole Rafuse scored not once, but twice with the man advantage, giving the Bombers a 4-2 lead after 20.
Alec Malo added another powerplay marker in the second before the floodgates opened in the third. Kaspick, Brandon Cianflone, Ryder Richmond and Reid Robertson each scored in the third period to secure the rout.
Jacob Delorme made 29 saves on the night, while Zach Johnson had a dismal night in the Klippers' crease, making only 18 saves on 27 shots.
Malo and Chase Haygarth each finished the game with a goal and two assists. Since Malo was acquired by the Bombers in training camp, he's been nothing short of a revelation. After 15 games, Malo has not been held off the scoresheet in any of his SJHL appearances. He now has 30 points, behind only Yorkton forward Chantz Petruic in the league scoring race. Malo is currently on pace to finish the season with 116 points. Donavan Houle-Villeneuve and Cole Rafuse are each in the league's top five scorers.
The Bombers and Klippers will play again Saturday night, ending a three game road trip. Flin Flon will have a chance to come home with a perfect record, having beaten Humboldt Thursday.
