January is proving to be a tough month for the Bombers as they have been downed in six of their eight games in the 2008 part of the season. The Maroon and White still have a few more chances to get a good winning streak going, but they were unable to do so Tuesday night. It was the Nipawin Hawks with home ice advantage as they swooped down and beat the Bombers 4-1, and outshot the team 35-30. Calvin Bartel was dressed for Flin Flon as he stood his guard in the pipes, but the Hawks were still able to get past him, four times that night. Nearly 700 fans watched as they saw their own Brent Ottmann, Torrie Dyck and Dean Proick find the back of the net during the game. And it was David Linsley who lit the lantern for the Bombers early in the second period on a power play. The first period saw two goals, less than 30 seconds from each other, late in the period. Ottmann got past Bartel after 17:24 with help from teammate Steve Mason on a power play goal. And t was Dyck who found the net just seconds later, with help from Matt Schneider and Jordon Miller. The first period saw only two penalties, for the Bombers. Newly added Darcy Holfeld spent his two minutes in the box for hooking, as did Dustyn Clegg, giving the Hawks a power play each time. Both Flin Flon and Nipawin came out of the first period with 10 shots on net, but it wasnÕt enough for the Bombers as they were down 2-0 starting the second 20 minutes of play. And it was Dyck, again, who found the back of the net for the Hawks late in the second period on a power play, giving the home team a 3-0 advantage over the Maroon and White. The second period saw a few more penalties as Harley Garrioch was given two minutes for interference as was Hawk Schneider. Matt Restoule saw himself in the box with two minutes on the clock after roughing. And it was Mike Brodziak who sat out for goalie interference. Mason found himself sitting out for holding as well. By the end of the second period, Bartel had seen another 10 shots on net, while the Bombers had fired 13 shots Derek KleinsteuberÕs way. With the third period getting underway, and trailing 3-0, the Bombers pulled up their socks and made it onto the scoreboard. Linsley came out on a power play, with Clegg, and put the Maroon and White on the board only 2:31 after the puck dropped. With a score of 3-1, the Hawks wanted their three goal lead back as they fired another one past Bartel, making it 4-1. And while scoring was kept to a minimal with two goals, the penalties were flying high as the Bombers saw five and the Hawks had three called against them. NipawinÕs Trent Rumpel sat out for hooking only 31 seconds after the whistle blew while Bomber Cameron MacKinnon saw his five minutes out for fighting with Colton MacDonald. Bomber Scott Day was called on hooking. Linsley was given an unsportsman like conduct while Garrioch was called on roughing after the whistle and Hawk Jordan Miller was given two minutes for his unsportsman like conduct as well. Day also sat out two minutes for elbowing. The end of the third period, with a score of 4-1 for the Hawks, saw Bartel face another 15 shots while the Bombers handed off anther seven. The Bombers hit the ice the next night for a game in Notre Dame against the Hounds.
