Bombers fall to Hawks 4-1 on road

Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Nipawin Hawks put a stop to the Flin Flon Bombers' four-game winning streak Tuesday night as they defeated the Maroon and White 4-1. Tuesday's game, in Nipawin, started with the Hawks up 1-0 after the first period. The Hawks turned their game up with their second goal as Tayler Balog hit the back of the net at 17:28 of the second period on a power play. His team down 2-0, Brody Robinson earned the Bombers' lone goal of the game. Coming in at 18:05, Robinson brought the score a little closer with help from Konrad Litke and Cole McCaig. But, the Hawks were on target in the third period with two more goals. Wheaton King scored his second goal of the night against Devin Buffalo _ at 4:33 in the final frame to make it 3-1. Bomber head coach and GM Mike Reagan pulled Buffalo in the final minutes of play for a chance at a second goal. But the Hawks capitalized on the opportunity and made it a 4-1 game at 18:44. The Bombers remained on the road for their second game in as many nights on Wednesday. The team traveled to Melfort to visit the Mustangs for their third match-up of the season. Flin Flon defeated Melfort in the 'Stangs' home opener as well as the their own home opener the following night. Following the two-game mini road series the Bombers look to host the Battlefords North Stars tonight. Tomorrow, the Maroon and White will welcome the Melville Millionaires. Despite Tuesday's loss against the Hawks, the Bombers remained in first place in the Bauer Conference with 26 points _ 13 wins and four losses. The conference rival Mustangs sat in fifth place with 13 points _ six wins and nine losses before their match-up with Flin Flon Wednesday.
