The Flin Flon Bombers may have fallen shy of their season ticket goal for the upcoming season, but team officials are still pleased with the final tally. The club had set its sights on the 1,000 mark by June 30, but ended up selling 874 tickets. That represents, roughly, nearly 10 per cent of the Flin Flon-Creighton area population. "If you look at a place like Winnipeg, if one-tenth of the population bought tickets there, you'd have about 100,000 people," said Duke Rodnisky, club president. "We're very happy with the support." Had the Bombers reached the 1,000-ticket goal, two lucky buyers were going to win their money back. The 1,200 mark would have given one fan a free air conditioning system complete with installation. Of course many of the Bomber faithful will purchase their tickets at the gate. Between the walk-ins and season ticket buyers, team officials are upbeat about the club's chances of again topping SJHL attendance. "We're hoping once we get going, as our success grows this year, we will lead the league again," said Rodnisky. "We know we have to, as an organization, earn the support of the fans and that's what we are striving for. "We're very optimistic that we're going to have a great product and the people are going to come out and watch it." The team will begin that strive for support with its pre-season home opener against the rival OCN Blizzard on Friday, Sept. 2. It will be one of three exhibition match-ups at the Whitney Forum. The Bombers' regular season will kick off on Friday, Sept. 16 in La Ronge. The Ice Wolves will be in town for Flin Flon's home opener on Sunday, Sept. 18. All told, the Bombers have 26 home games on the schedule. Hockey Gods willing, they will also host some playoff dates. In other team news, the Bombers are hosting a handful of prospects this weekend. The young men will get the chance to meet people within the community and see for themselves what Flin Flon has to offer.
