Well, it was fun while it lasted.

The Flin Flon Bombers' six-game winning streak was snapped Friday night with a 3-2 loss to the Battlefords North Stars. The North Stars, the top team in the SJHL and ranked ninth in Canada, handed Flin Flon their first loss since Nov. 30.

Layne Young scored the winning goal for the Stars early in the third period. Goals from Nick Shumlanski and Troy Williams allowed the Bombers to pull close, but ultimately weren't enough. Logan Nachtegaele and Ben Allen also scored for the Stars. Zac Robidoux took the L after a valiant 39 save effort, while Taryn Kotchorek got the win after making 23 stops.

The loss comes two days after the Bombers defeated the Stars 4-2 at the North Battleford Civic Centre. The loss is also the first for interim head coach Gary Childerhose, who has coached the last six games for the Bombers while head coach and general manager Mike Reagan was at the World Junior A Challenge.

Flin Flon is still sitting pretty on top of the Sherwood Division with 46 points, well ahead of both Nipawin and Melfort, who each have 33 points. The Stars pad their lead at the top of the league standings with 56 points. The Bombers have won 12 of their last 14 games and have points in 18 of their last 21 games.

The Bombers play their last game before the holiday break on Dec. 17 against the Kindersley Klippers. The players will return for a home-and-home series with La Ronge on Dec. 30-31.
