The Maroon and White couldn't have asked for a better double-header to end their regular season road schedule. Coming home with four points, the Bombers wrapped things up in Battlefords with an impressive 5-2 win over the North Stars last Friday night. Scoring on a power play to open the scoring, the Bombers were able to keep the momentum going as they lit the lantern four times in the first 20 minutes of play. Keeping the puck out of his net, Ryan Kerpan guarded the pipes and turned away 39 of the home team's shot Ð letting two past. For the Bombers, it was Alex Lamontagne who got the scoring started with a late goal with help from Josh Garneau and Tommy Castonguay on a power play just before the 10-minute mark. Making it 2-0, Michael Young came in with a helper from Castonguay, the team's leading scorer, and Reid MacLeod just two minutes later. As the North Stars tried to capitalize on a few opportunities, Kerpan was able to keep his shutout while the Bombers continued to light the lantern. Up next, Flin Flon product Tanner Korchinski made it to the back of the net after accepting a pass from Brennan Cox and MacLeod Ð making it 3-0. Adding the team's fourth goal of the night, and period, Devin Mitzner scored with help from Mathieu Lecours. By the end of the first period, the Bombers had been sent to the penalty box twice Ð Harley Garrioch for interference and Young for unsportsmanlike conduct. The North Stars served their two minutes for tripping. Shots fired in the first period signified the high score for the Bombers as they earned 18 shots on net while Kerpan saw eight. A pep talk during the intermission seemed to be just what the North Stars needed as they came out looking for revenge in the second period with a power play goal at the 1:03 mark and then another on the eight-minute mark. With the Bombers still doubled up on the North Stars 4-2, Castonguay got on the other side of the puck and accepted a pass from Lamontagne and Garneau for the team's fifth and final goal of the night. The penalties were reversed in the second period with Battlefords in the sin bin twice Ð once for tripping and the other slashing Ð while Mitzner was given two minutes for boarding. Another seven shots came from the Bombers while Kerpan was faced with 14. Bringing the game to an end in the third period, the only changes made to the score clock had the penalties going up. The Bombers had Garrioch in for roughing and Lecours in for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct with Dane Muench. And serving a two-minute penalty for too many men on the ice was Mitzner. By the end of the period, the Bombers, though unable to get past Kyle Birch, had another nine shots on net with Kerpan knocking away 19 of the North Stars' attempts.
