Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Flin Flon Bombers ended their regular season with a bang Tuesday as they shot down the Nipawin Hawks 5-2. It was a 1-1 tie for much of the first two periods before the Bombers opened fire. The Hawks ended the regular season with 72 points while the Bombers sat in fifth place in the Bauer Conference with 65 points. Both are still in the running for the SJHL title. The Bombers will start their playoff run in the Survivor Series as they take on the La Ronge Ice Wolves tonight in Game 1. Tuesday's game showed the key elements of the Bombers as they successfully killed five of six penalties. The Maroon and White earned a goal on two of four power play chances to go with two shorthanded goals. The Hawks got the ball rolling as they made it a 1-0 game at 7:21 of the first period with a shot past Devin Buffalo. Justin Schoffer scored Flin Flon's first goal with help from Dallen Hall and Cam Blair as he made it 1-1 at 15:55. Riley Storzuk sent the Bombers into the lead with a power play marker at 8:34 of the second period, with help from Brett Penner and Hall. Sitting pretty with a one goal lead, Penner made it a 3-1 game with a power play goal at 10:39 of the second with help from Dillan McCombie and Tanner Clark. Blair had two big markers in the third period. He scored two shorthanded goals, the first at 13:19 and the second at 18:37, to make it a 5-1 game. With 40 seconds left on the clock, the Hawks scored their second goal of the night, on a power play, but it was far too little, too late as the Bombers ended their regular season on a high note. Along with their win over the Hawks, the Bombers earned a 3-2 overtime win against the La Ronge Ice Wolves in their second-to-last game of the regular season. The Bombers and Ice Wolves face off tonight in Game 1 of the Survivor Series, for the Bauer Conference, in La Ronge. In the Sherwood Conference, the Notre Dame Hounds and the Estevan Bruins will fight to stay in the playoffs.
