The Flin Flon Bombers won their first hockey game of the season, picking up three of a possible four points on the weekend. Over 1,000 fans came out to see the Bombers put in full 60-minute efforts in both games, where Flin Flon lost in overtime to Estevan 3-2 on Friday and edged Melville 3-2 on Saturday. On Friday night, the Bombers spotted the Bruins two goals before tying the game early in the third. Estevan's Pat McGillicky scored his sixth goal of the season at 13:44 of the first period after being given the middle lane, and Dominic Cote scored a power-play goal at 7:02 of the second period. Joey Moggach made a nice move on goaltender Juliano Pagliero to score a power-play goal at 13:20. The goal, his third of the season, was assisted by Bradey Fidierchuk and Clayton Geiger. Andrew Skrabek scored his first goal since the home-opener on September 17 at 2:05 of the third period to tie the game, with Stewart Sjoberg assisting. The Bombers had some good chances to end the game in regulation, but couldn't solve Pagliero. With time winding down in overtime, a giveaway in the neutral zone gave the Bruins control of the puck, allowing Trevor Hyatt to score the winning goal with five seconds left on the clock. Shots on net were 33-32 in favour of the Bruins, who scored on their only shot of overtime. Francois Laverdiere made 30 saves in the losing cause. Flin Flon had one power-play goal on seven chances, while Estevan scored once on five tries. On Saturday night, the Bombers built up a 3-0 lead and held on to down the Melville Millionaires 3-2. See 'Beachell' P.# Con't from P.# Keith Spencer scored his first goal of the season on the power play at 1:42 of the first period, with Clayton Geiger and Joey Moggach assisting. Stewart Sjoberg was the beneficiary of a lucky bounce, scoring a shorthanded goal on a bank off the side boards at 16:40, with Spencer getting credit for the assist. In the second period, Tyler Beachell's first goal of the season came off a shot from the side of the net at 1:49. Bob Graham assisted, and the Bombers had a 3-0 lead. That three-goal lead didn't last long, however, as Riley Wickenheiser scored at 2:45, and Bear Trapp brought the Millionaires within one goal of the Bombers at 7:37 with a power-play marker. Flin Flon tried to add to their lead late in the second period, but after allowing two unlucky goals, netminder Matthew Scott was sharp for the Millionaires. In the third period, the Bombers shut down the neutral zone and held on to win the game, 3-2. The Bombers out shot the Millionaires 27-24 and scored one power-play goal on three chances, again holding their opponents to one goal on five chances. Flin Flon has now earned points in each of its last three games. The next game for the Bombers will be Tuesday night, when they visit the Uniplex in La Ronge.
