The Flin Flon Bombers were no match for the Melville Millionaires on Monday night, as the Sherwood Conference leaders downed the maroon and white by a score of 6-2. It was the third consecutive game that the Bombers allowed their opponents to score at least six goals, pointing out an obvious lack of concentration in their own end. The Millionaires out shot the Bombers 44-23 in the contest, that was filled with penalties from start to finish. Michael Zulyniak opened the scoring for Melville at 5:14, and Neil Kodman made it 2-0 at 8:35 of the first period with a power-play goal. Shots were 18-7 in the first period, as goaltender Brett Koscielny was kept busy and did a good job of keeping the Bombers in the game after 20 minutes. The total team effort just wasn't there for the Bombers in the second period. Andrew Skrabek scored his seventh goal of the season 22 seconds into the frame, but Melville dominated from that point on. Derek Blais and John Iron assisted on the Bomber goal. Derek Parker made it 3-1 at 8:01, and Shawn Langen scored Melville's fourth goal at 10:28. Joey Moggach's seventh of the season came on a power-play for the Bombers at 15:25, assisted by Conrad Wilgenbusch and Brennen Giroux, but Melville took control again with their fifth goal of the game at 18:22. Kai Magnussen got the goal unassisted. Melville out shot Flin Flon 12-4 in the second period. The Bombers settled down in the third period, but couldn't get another puck through goaltender Jamie Langen. Magnussen's second of the game at 15:24 was the only goal of the third period, a frame that was filled with fights and misconducts. The Millionaires took a total of 141 penalty minutes in the contest, while the Bombers added 133 minutes onto their league leading total, which stands at 629 minutes in nine games. In comparison, the Kindersley Klippers are second in penalty minutes with 487 in 12 games. Shots in the third period were 14-12 in favour of the Millionaires, who scored one power-play goal on seven chances, while the Bombers scored once on 12 tries. Joey Moggach and Andrew Skrabek continue to lead the Bombers offensively. Skrabek has seven goals and 13 points to lead the team in both categories. Moggach also has seven goals, and is second in rookie scoring in the league with 10 points, two behind Melville's Neil Kodman. Conrad Wilgenbusch leads Bomber defencemen with eight points, while Jeff Lapointe is second with five points. The Bombers were in Nipawin last night to try and put their three game losing streak to a halt. Results were unavailable at press time.
