Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Flin Flon Bombers walked away with one point last Thursday in their final road game of the regular season. The team lost 3-2 in overtime to the La Ronge Ice Wolves. The Bombers and Ice Wolves had a home-and-home series last Thursday and Friday as the Bombers hosted the second game. Thursday's game started out in La Ronge's favour with the only goal in the first period. Graham Smerek was first to light the lantern as he put the puck past Devin Buffalo at 8:35. Both Buffalo and Myles Hovdebo were solid for the remainder of the period. In total, 24 shots were taken between the two teams _ 13 of which came from the Maroon and White. Dillan McCombie owned the second period with two goals to take the lead over the home team. He picked up his first marker at 2:48 with help from Brett Boehm and Jason Wark. McCombie's second goal of the night came at 11:58 with help from Tanner Clark and Boehm. Trailing 2-1 at the end of the second period, the Ice Wolves tied the game in the third period with a goal at 10:17. Between the second and third period the Bombers fired off 33 shots _ compared to 24 from the Ice Wolves. With neither team able to break the tie, the Bombers and Ice Wolves were sent into overtime. The Ice Wolves picked up the winning shot at 4:33 as Brett Hope sealed the deal. It was Flin Flon's first overtime loss of the season. In their previous 51 games, the Bombers had gone to the extra frame seven times, winning three times in OT and four times in a shootout. Either way, Thursday night was going to break someone's perfect OT streak. The La Ronge Ice Wolves sat with a perfect overtime record, but had recorded three shootout losses. In their 53 games as of Friday morning, the Ice Wolves had played in 10 games that went to an extra frame. They lost three times in a shootout, won three times in a shootout and picked up four OT wins. In the Sherwood Conference, the Notre Dame Hounds and Weyburn Red Wings also had perfect overtime records, as of Friday morning. The Bombers and Estevan Bruins were the only two teams to hold a perfect shootout record. Friday night, after The Reminder went to press, the Bombers hosted the Ice Wolves in the visitors' last game of the regular season. The Bombers host the Melfort Mustangs tomorrow night for their final match before the playoffs start. The Bombers will look to the Nipawin Hawks for their first round of playoffs. The Hawks sat second in the Bauer Conference as of Friday morning with a five-point lead over Flin Flon.
