Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Nipawin Hawks put an end to the Flin Flon Bombers' perfect home record. This past Saturday night, the Hawks downed the Bombers 5-2 to give Flin Flon their first home loss of the season. Nipawin got things going early in the first period with a goal against Devin Buffalo at the 47-second mark. Just before the Hawks made it a 1-0 game, Hayden Dawes and Nipawin's Grant Jensen dropped the gloves for an impressive fight. The two players went well over a minute, throwing punches and standing their ground. Down 1-0 before the first minute of play, the Bombers took another six minutes to tie the game with a marker from Brett Boehm with help from Konrad Litke and Josh Roach. The teams headed to the dressing room tied at 1-1. Nipawin scored the opening goal of the second period. On a power play, Carter Danczak made it a 2-1 game at 9:05 to score the lone goal of the second. Four more goals came in the third period as Nipawin started at 5:29 with another power play marker to make it 3-1. At 6:53 the visitors were back on target with their fourth goal against Buffalo. Dawes picked up the Bombers' second goal of the night at 19:06 with help from Landon Hiebert and Brock Hounsell. Coach Mike Reagan pulled Buffalo for the man advantage, but the Hawks earned an empty net goal at 19:53 to seal the 5-2 victory. Heading into Saturday's game the Bombers held a perfect 13-0-0-0 home record. Though the Bombers were left with their first home loss of the season, the team remained atop both the Bauer Conference and the SJHL.
