Going in off a high from sweeping the Melfort Mustangs in the Itech Conference Semi-Finals, the Bombers had two losses handed to them by the Humboldt Broncos. For the last few years, the two teams have paired up in the Itech Conference Finals Ð leaving the Bombers behind at the end. So far, as the games were Saturday and Sunday, the Bombers are down two-games-to-none after the Broncos doubled up on Flin Flon 4-2 in game one and won 4-1 in game two. Saturday night, the Bombers were down 2-0 by the end of the first period. And another Humboldt goal was let in before Cole Wilson scored the team's first goal of the series, on a power play, with help from Patrick Sitko. By the end of the second period, the Broncos had scored another goal Ð giving them a 4-1 advantage. Alex Lamontagne found the back of the net for the Bombers for their second goal, but it wasn't enough for a win. With help from Tommy Castonguay, Lamontagne was able to get past Andrew Bodnarchuk late in the third period. The Broncos skated away with the victory in game one Saturday night in their own barn. Sunday night, the Bombers and Broncos were back at it Ð with hopes of a different outcome for Flin Flon. The first period was scoreless, but few shots to show for it. Matt Weninger started off the night in net as he turned away 12 of the Broncos' shots as Bodnarchuk stopped all six of the Bombers. Humboldt started the scoring in the second period with a goal before the first 30 seconds of play. Lamontagne answered back with a goal for the Bombers Ð making it a 1-1 game Ð with help from Dominic Martel just three minutes later. But the Broncos weren't going to leave it at that as the team earned two more goals by the end of the period. Sitting at 3-1, the Bombers came back in the third period but were unable to get past Humboldt. Weninger let the home team's fourth goal past him Ð resulting in a goalie change with Ryan Kerpan in net Ð to make it 4-1 for the win. The shots were low in the second game for the Bombers as they only offered 16 while the Broncos had 41 on them. The Bombers and Broncos get set to face off in the Whitney Forum tomorrow night and Friday for games three and four. For the Bombers, they need to win at least one of the games to continue the series. Head coach and GM Mike Reagan was unavailable for comment.
