Flin Flon's stint atop the SJHL standings came to an end Tuesday night as the Bombers travelled to La Ronge to take on the Ice Wolves. The hometown Wolves dominated the scoreboard and kept the Bombers at bay with a 5-2 win. For the Bombers, Matt Weninger was in net as he tried to continue his hot streak, but the Ice Wolves were too much for him as they were up 2-0 at the end of the first period Ð their second goal coming on a power play. The Bombers made their first appearance on the scoreboard with a goal from Taylor Thiessen late in the second period Ð also on a power play Ð with help from Matty Lecours and Mike Rey. Breaking Adam Bartkos' shutout wasn't an easy task as there were less than 30 seconds on the clock when Thiessen found the back of the net. At the end of the second period, the Bombers had a total of 26 shots on net Ð with a final total of 46 Ð but Bartko was on his game. nearing the 16-minute mark of the third period, Andrew Johnston was able to get past the Ice Wolves goalie for Flin Flon's second goal of the night. Assisting Johnston on a power play were Lecours and Michael Young. The Ice Wolves were able to light the lantern five times Ð two goals in the first, one in the second, which came before Thiessen's goal, and two in the third Ð one goal before and one goal after Johnstons'. At the end of the 60 minutes of play, Weninger had seen the puck 49 times while the Bombers fired off 46 shots. Going into Tuesday's game, the Bombers held first place in the SJHL, but with their loss, they were at a standstill as they remained with 49 points. In second place, only one point behind the Bombers, were the Weyburn Red Wings. The Wings took on the Yorkton Terriers and came out on top 2-1, giving them the two points they needed to move ahead of the Bombers. Second place in the Bauer Conference, with 43 points, was held by the Battlefords North Stars, whom the Bombers played Wednesday night. The Sherwood Conference, led by the Red Wings, saw the Notre Dame Hounds in second place with 42 points.
