The Bombers left their loss from the night before at the door as they walked into the Duncan McNeil Arena in Notre Dame Wednesday. There to face the Hounds, the game is all the Maroon and White were thinking about. That frame of mind helped Flin Flon double up on the home team 6-3 for their first two points of their road series. Putting the disappointing game of the night before out of mind might sound hard to do, but head coach and GM Mike Reagan says its how things have to be done. "You can't dwell on the losses, the same goes for the wins," he says, noting the team has to concentrate on that night alone. "What's done is done," says Reagan. And as the coach always says, "A good team doesn't lose two in a row." So with that fresh in the team's mind, the Bombers kept their team honest and pulled out a win over the Hounds in their own barn. Going into the game, there wasn't a whole lot of change for the team Ð it was a typical road game. The boys were healthy and looking for their two points. Changing things up from the night before, Ryan Kerpan guarded the mesh for the Bombers and saw 39 shots come his way Ð letting three past him. Making it to the scoresheet for the Bombers first was Cole Wilson, followed by David Dykstra and then Devin Mitzner. Tommy Castonguay followed suit in the second period to score the team's fourth goal before Michael Young came in with a goal of his own. And ending the scoring for the Bombers was Alex Lamontagne. Looking at the lines, a few changes had been made. "There were a few minor adjustments," says Reagan, "with a few lineup changes...to get the guys into the groove of things." The Bombers entered the game with no injuries, though a few players left with some bumps and bruises, but nothing that won't leave them with a full roster for tonight's game against Weyburn. As for the games in Weyburn this weekend, Reagan is expecting nothing less than a challenge. "Weyburn is one of the better teams in the league," says the coach. Going into the series, the Bombers sit with a 1-1 record against the Red Wings, something Reagan hopes to improve to 3-1 by the end of Saturday night. "I hope the boys come ready to play and we are able to get a couple of wins there," he says. The following is a summary of Wednesday's game: Wilson didn't waste any time getting the Maroon and White onto the scoreboard with a goal at the 1:22 mark of the first period, with helpers going to Reid MacLeod and Harley Garrioch. Leading with a score of 1-0, the Hounds came out in full force to tie things up. At the 6:44 mark, the game was back in anyone's hands. But Dykstra was able to take care of that for the Bombers as he lit the lantern to break the tie. Dykstra found the back of the net after accepting a pass from Brennan Cox and Jean Sebastian Bergeron. And just before the 15-minute mark, Mitzner made the lead that much more comfortable after getting the puck from Mathieu Lecours and Garrioch. There was only one penalty in the first period, as the Hounds were sentenced to two minutes for hooking Ð giving the Bombers a power play, but they were unable to capitalize. Going into the second period, the Bombers had 11 shots under their belts, while Kerpan had faced 10 from the Hounds. And once again, the Bombers got the scoring underway with a goal from Castonguay just 25 seconds after the initial puck drop. Accepting a pass from Lamontagne and Dominic Martel, Castonguay was able to find the back of the net to make it 4-1 for the Bombers. And keeping the goals coming, Young bumped the team up to five just before the three-minute mark with help from Tanner Korchinski and Mitch Dougall The Hounds were able to find their sticks and answered back with their second goal of the night at the 12:57 mark. Seconds later, the Hounds were back in the game with their third goal. As the score sat at 5-3, Lamontagne made sure the Bombers walked away with a hefty lead over the home team as he rattled the mesh for the Maroon and White's last goal of the game Ð with assists going to Martel and Castonguay. The second period left both teams with a few good shots on net. The Bombers ended the period with eight while the Hounds earned 11. No goals were scored in the third period and only one penalty was called Ð sending Cox to the bin for roughing. Flin Flon is in Weyburn tonight and tomorrow night for a double-header before heading back to the Whitney Forum to face the Nipawin Hawks on Tuesday.
