The Flin Flon Bombers took it to the Viterra Division-leading Estevan Bruins at the Whitney Forum Friday night, coming away with a lopsided 8-3 win.
Flin Flon opened the scoring only 3:45 into the game, with Troy Williams scoring his first goal since joining the Bombers Dec. 3. The Bombers scored four goals in the first period, chasing Bruin goalie Nathan Alalouf from the crease after 20 minutes. Backup Curtis Meger fared little better, giving up another four goals in the last two periods.
Estevan head coach Chris Lewgood was ejected from the game in the third period after a drawing a bench minor. The Bruins served 44 minutes in penalties during the game.
Eight different players scored for the Bombers. Greyson Reitmeier tallied three assists and Nick Shumlanski added a goal and two assists.
Bomber Dondre Watson scored his first goal in almost two months. Watson started the season on a tear with eight goals in his first five games, but hasn't found the scoresheet since Oct. 13. Watson's last goal was also against Estevan.
The Bruins' three-game winning streak came to an end with the loss, while the Bombers' winning streak grows to four straight games.The Bombers are well ahead in the Sherwood Division, 11 points ahead of the Nipawin Hawks. With 42 total points, the Bombers are third overall in the league, behind the Bruins and the Battleford North Stars.
Friday's game was the last home game for the Bombers in 2016. The team will head on a four-game road trip before leaving for the holiday break. The road swing starts with a game in La Ronge on Dec. 13.
