The Flin Flon Bombers have earned a big win in their first game back from the holiday break.

The team capped off an up-and-down 2017 on a high note, beating La Ronge 4-1 in their last home game before New Year's.

The squad showed no signs of rust, with goals by Rob Johnson and Nick Shumlanski coming in the first period. After a scoreless second, Jordan Funk potted his first goal as a Bomber to make the game 3-0 Flin Flon.

Mitch Zambon ruined Bomber goalie Brenden Newton's shutout bid late in the third, but Bomber rookie Caleb Moretz added another goal to give the Bombers a commanding win on home ice.

Newton stopped 28 of 29 shots he faced, while La Ronge goalie Merek Pipes made 44 saves. Flin Flon's Chrystopher Collin and La Ronge forward Dawson Boehm were ejected in the second period for fighting.

Flin Flon currently sits in third place in the Sherwood Division with 26 points, ahead of La Ronge's 16 but well behind both Nipawin (56 points) and Melfort (49 points).

The Bombers will try to extend their winning ways on New Year's Eve, when they'll face off against the Ice Wolves in La Ronge. Once 2018 commences, the Bombers will play five of their next six games at home, starting with a pair of matchups with Yorkton at the Whitney Forum Jan. 5 and 6.
