It was a much needed win for the boys in maroon Tuesday night as they traveled to La Ronge to face off against the Ice Wolves in game two of their road trip. The Bombers came out scoring in the first period and got past the home team 2-1 for the two points Ð as well as putting themselves two more points above the Melfort Mustangs in the standings. Ryan Kerpan stood tall between the pipes for the Bombers and turned away 20 shots as the Bombers fired off 35 on Jonathon Jobin. It was a close game as each period saw one goal, with the Bombers starting off in the first period and ending the scoring in the third. The following is a summary of the game held at the Mel Hegland Arena: A late first period goal got the Bombers up and running as Alex Lamontagne accepted a pass from Tommy Castonguay and Reid MacLeod and got past Jobin on a power play. With the score sitting at 1-0, the scoring was done for the first period. Few penalties were had, but the Bombers did serve one. Lamontagne was in the sin bin for tripping while the Ice Wolves were given minor penalties for hooking, checking from behind, as well as a game misconduct, slashing and cross checking. The shots came hard from the Bombers as they handed off 17 to Jobin while Kerpan saw 10. The second period was the Ice WolvesÕ time to shine as Everette Lerner got to the back of the net on a power play near the 13-minute mark. With the game tied at one, the Bombers would have to wait for the third period to seal the deal. The second period saw a few more penalties as Flin Flon was in for slashing, twice, by Mitch Dougall, tripping from MacLeod and holding from Patrick Sitko. La Ronge was in the box for slashing and interference as well. By the end of the second period, the Ice Wolves had fired off another 11 shots on Kerpan, but the Bombers bettered that and earned 18 shots. The third period was a good one for the Bombers as they scored the last goal of the game and were able to take two points with them. Devin Mitzner found the back of the net, unassisted. After TuesdayÕs game, the Bombers made their way to Battlefords to play the North Stars. It was a tough loss for the Bombers as they came out with an 8-5 loss.
