Saturday night the Bombers hit the ice in Yorkton full of confidence, as they do every game, but it just wasnÕt enough as the Terriers defeated the visiting Maroon and White 3-1. And although the Bombers outshot Yorkton 33-26, they just couldnÕt get more than one past goaltender Lyden Sammartino. Carsen Chubak started off in net for the Bombers facing all 26 shots, before Calvin Bartel stepped in to finish off the rest of the game. Captain Dennis Kubat, who will be playing in this weekendÕs All-Star Game along with teammates Pierre-Luc Boucher, Myles Masse and Reid MacLeod, got Flin Flon on the score board with an unassisted goal in the second period. Saturday night, in front of 937 fans in the Farrell Agencies Arena, both teams played the ice in the first period, but were unsuccessful as it was a scoreless period. Three penalties were served as MacLeod was called on slashing and Cody Zubko was given five minutes for checking from behind as well as a 10 minute game misconduct. Chubak saw 10 shots come his way while the Maroon and White fired the puck 12 times at YorktonÕs goalie, but were unable to score. But it was Kubat who broke the net in as he made it 1-0 for the visiting Bombers in the second period. The teams kept their cool as there were only three penalties in the second period as well. Logan Dew of the Terriers was given two minutes for slashing while Masse sat behind the glass for hooking and Michael Trebish was given two minutes for holding. Chubak continued to play the second period, where he faced another 11 shots on net. And the Bombers had another 13 chances, but were still unable to find the back of the net again. And while Kubat was the only scorer for the second period, Yorkton came back with a vengeance in the third period to claim the win. After almost 10 minutes of play, Jock Sutter lit up the scoreboard with help from his line mates before Kevin Stringfellow helped out with another goal for the team. And it was Bryan Hull who sealed the envelope with an empty net goal. Bartel made his appearance in the third period for the final 23 seconds of the game. By the end of the third period, Chubak has 26 shots come his way and the Bombers had 33 against the Terriers. The third period saw a few penalties as Kubat was given five minutes for checking from behind and a 10 minute game misconduct. Cory Silverson was called on tripping, while MacLeod was sentenced to two minutes for charging and a 10 minute game misconduct as well.
