Wrapping up a good month, the Flin Flon Bombers defeated the Melville Millionaires 4-3 on Friday evening at the Whitney Forum. Almost 1,020 people came out for the much anticipated game, as the Bombers were looking to finish the month of November with an 8-3 record, which they did. After news that he would be playing in the Prospects Game this month, Reid MacLeod showed his true colours, earning himself five points. While he works hard for the Bombers, MacLeod will have to work even harder during the Prospects Game, as he says the game is a one-shot deal. "There's only one game and if you don't perform, you don't get a second chance," says the Teulon, MB, native. "It's nerve wracking, but it's what you have to do." While MacLeod says he wasn't expecting to be named for the team, he says "it's nice to be recognized for the hard work," adding it's an "excellent opportunity to play at a level like that." With the Prospect Game comes NHL scouts, and Bomber assistant coach Clayton Quinn says MacLeod is a player to watch for. "If anyone in the league deserves to be in the game, it's Reid," says Quinn, adding only a handful of players get to play in the game. "He's talented and unbelievable on the ice," he says. MacLeod proved himself Friday night as he scored the first goal of the game. With the Maroon and White up 1-0 after 2:24 into the game, the teams fought back and forth to light the lantern. The Bombers found the back of the net for the second time that night as Pierre-Luc Boucher bumped the score up to 2-0 with the help of linemates MacLeod and Dennis Kubat. Two minutes later, at 12:24, the Millionaires pulled their socks up and got one past Calvin Bartel, making the score 2-1. Penalties were few and far between during the game, as the Millionaires saw the only three that for the first period. Both Derek Edwards and Michael Jordan sat out for interference while Jarett Fisher saw the inside of the box for hooking. The Bombers had nine shots on net in the first period while Bartel had six pucks come his way. The second period saw some puck action as well as the Bombers managed to score another two goals. Boucher found the back of the net with help from Tommy Castonguay and Myles Masse, while MacLeod lit the lantern for the final time for the Bombers with help again from Boucher and Kubat. The Bombers saw two of their penalties in the second period put Barrett Penner in the box for slashing and Harley Garrioch in the box for cross checking. Millionaire Levi Lind took one for the team as he sat out for a bench minor, while Jeremy Havde was called on interference and Curtis Beech was in for boarding. The third period saw only one goal and two penalties. The Millionaires closed the gap on the scoreboard with a final goal, making the score 4-3 for the Bombers. Millionaires Kirk Mastad and Havde saw the inside of the box as well. The Bombers had a three period total of 34 shots on goal while the Millionaires had 21. Melville pulled their goalie for the last two minutes of the game with hopes of bringing the score to a tie, but even an extra player on the ice wasn't enough to get past the Bombers. With the Bombers coming out with an 8-3 record for November, Quinn says it's a good month. "They didn't back away from the pack and the guys know if you lose a game it will cost you in the end," says the assistant coach. "Melville gave us a run for a money and it was a good character builder," says Quinn. The Bombers were up one goal and the Millionaires were still coming out hard and Quinn says the character building part comes into play when the boys don't back down. As for a game plan for the game, Quinn says just scoring early gives the guys momentum. "And we didn't back down," he adds. The Bombers added a name to Friday night's roster as well as Tanner Korchinski put on jersey number two. "He played really well tonight," says Quinn, adding that the 17-year-old Norman Northstar has good patience and knows what he's doing. The Bombers made their way to La Ronge on Sunday to take on the Ice Wolves, but lost with a score of 4-3 for La Ronge.
