The Flin Flon Bombers dropped a big game to division rivals Melfort Sunday, losing 7-3.
After Daylan Marchi started the scoring early for Flin Flon, Mustangs Loch Morrison and Adam Hergott each tallied for Melfort, giving the 'Stangs a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
The Bombers didn't get closer than that, with Kayle Tosh and Justin Ball each scoring early in the second period to extend Melfort's lead to 4-1. Bomber starting goalie Reese Jones was chased from the net after Ball's goal, making 13 saves in a brief appearance.
Calvon Boots scored late in the second to help stop the Bombers' bleeding, but Melfort turned things back on in the third period, getting a 5-2 lead from a goal by Colin Schmidt.
Dawson McKenzie added a third period goal for the Bombers to cut the lead to two. Tristen Elder and Tosh each beat Bomber netminder Niklas Anderson late in the game, extending the lead to 7-3 and leaving the Bomber faithful with a bad taste in their mouths.
Evan Plotnik snagged the win for Mustangs with 41 saves, while Bomber goalie Niklas Anderson made 26 saves in just over thirty minutes of relief.
The game was a chippy affair, with four players getting game misconducts. Mustang Rock Ruschkowsky was given the boot after a first-period check from behind, while Bomber Dylan Burton also was ejected for hit from behind. Melfort's Andrew Thompson and Bomber Connor Beebe were both sent to the showers after a short donnybrook in the second period.
The Bombers will play four of their next five games at the Whitney Forum, including their next match-up - against Weyburn on Nov. 29.
